Yeah not looking good for them after today though.

They would definitely be our closest game but without them I'm really struggling!

I used to watch Charlton occasionally when I lived in London but although the Valley was the nearest ground to where I lived I never saw them play there.
My only visit there was to see a gig headlined by The Who and supported by Lou Reed, Bad Company, Maggie Bell, Lindisfarne and Montrose in 1974.

I first went there for Good Friday morning kick off 1969, 4-1 defeat, Derek Showers getting our goal. Three sides of the ground were absolutely dwarfed by the open terrace, the Valley Slope. It was bloody huge, must have been able to hold about 50,000 +. We all went to Stamford Bridge in the afternoon for Chelsea v Newcastle, 2-0 to Chelsea.

I was at that one on that massive open terrace. Looked forward to it all week and we got stuffed.

Most likely at the moment either Reading or Rovers. Surely at least one stay.

Wrexham if they don't finish the job.

Fair few decent clubs in there that have been championship then a lot of the usual ones we have lost to in the 3rd round of the cup.

I can't work out if it will be interesting to play some of these or just miserable.

Definitely miserable! Let’s be honest our “big” games will be against the two that come down with us so Plymouth and either Luton/ Derby/ Hull . The other “biggie” could potentially be Wycombe, looks like they’ll end up in the playoffs and having just missed out on promotion might mess up in the playoffs

    Depressing eh

Is it? Lots of teams in that division we haven't played in donkeys. Relegation is disappointing but I'm pretty excited we'll get some new trips next season and don't have to play the same old teams. At least the fixture release in June will be worth looking at.

If we think the standard of games in the Championship has not been great I think we’re in for a mighty shock in league 1!

Probably true, but if we wanted high standard football no one would've ever started supporting Cardiff anyway.

I’m looking forward to the possibility of a few more “walk up” games where turnstile entry on the day is possible.

Proper old school football day out.

In fairness, getting pumped 7-0 by Leeds and 5-0 by Burnley was pretty depressing, while playing the likes of Millwall, QPR, Stoke and Preston year in, year out has become boring.

I was looking at our enormous list of victories earlier:

Millwall, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Norwich, Watford, Swansea, Derby, Hull and Blackburn.

Same old same old. Ironically, the only win that was in any way unusual was against the Jacks.

I just don’t get saying it will be a positive watching our team play different sides at a lower standard. I agree the football in the last few seasons has been terrible but that’s mostly down to us and not who we are playing.

Yes, winning games would be a good start and make a change and it’s more likely to happen in league 1 than the Championship but there’s no guarantee of that and who is to say if we bring in a decent manager and some new players we can’t compete again next season in the Championship.

I, like you, have also seen us play the teams in league 1 many times in the past and I’m not exactly thrilled to be playing the likes of Northampton, Lincoln, Wigan etc again

It would be different if we do a Birmingham , invest in a forward thinking manager and spend money on players and re-galvanise everyone behind the club but it’s a big concern we are more likely to end up floundering around mid table with the likes of previous Championship clubs Bolton and Wigan
