Of course it was possible for a keeper to have saved it if he happened to have been stood in the right area of the goal. Anyone can save anything if they are positioned where the shot goes.

However, on this occasion Horvath was completely blameless. His starting position was fine. It was just a brilliant strike. No keeper saves that.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think he should have done better.

Fair enough. I thought it was one of the best strikes I've ever seen live and all the talk afterwards was about it being an incredible effort. You're the only person I've read or heard who has suggested Horvath was somehow at fault. Although he's made some very good saves this season, I'm not in the least bit convinced by him, especially when he has the ball at his feet, but he had no chance with this one.

The ineffective wall also did a great job of blocking his view of the shot

There is the line used by outfield football pundits who talk about how no keeper should be beaten by a shot from thirty yards or further out - Oxfords goal showed that argument to be wrong, i dont blame Horvarth at all for that goal and I dont think the wall did much wrong. Where Id criticise our defending is in the way we gave the free kick away.

It looked like a tired challenge from Mannswerk at the time - but I haven't seen it again since.
A real shame as we had comprehensively won the midfield battle up to that point

The wall didn't react well to the ball being rolled to the side for the player to hit. That's why the goal was conceeded.

Have a look at the view from behind the goal, no City player was going to keep it out.

I have and I'm still trying to work out what our player, Alvez I think it was, was doing. Instead of running towards the ball he was running out towards the wing
