a 2-1 home defeat to Bolton confirmed our relegation to the third tier after 28 years in the top two divisions. We also suffered relegations in 1985 and 1995. Another reason, amongst all the others, why my gut feeling all season was that we'd go down this year.
Now I've posted this, our chances of a miraculous escape in these last two games will have substantially increased.

The crowd was apparently 6,300. 1974/75 was my first season. Bolton were 10th in the table. As are West Brom.

'Twas merely yesterday that we all joyfully watched Anderson, Evans, Alston et al in 75/76.
No matter what happened later, I really liked the way Jimmy Andrews set us up that season. Oh for someone like him to have a clear plan and an understanding of how to carry it out.

Yes, I think we were all but mathematically relegated in a 2-0 defeat at Southampton the previous Tuesday and would have needed a 6-0 win and Bristol Rovers to lose in order to survive. I seem to remember a certain Sam Allardyce heading in one of Bolton's goals.
