Ramsey "happy enough for his name to be discussed as next manager"

Are bookies still taking odds? He's pleading for it and there's obviously no other plan so it's his.

Interesting as he was adamant the other day he wanted to be a player.

    Assistant manager, maybe.

Full-time manager, no. Get Mowbray or Jones.

Exactly this - if the board had any clue they would be planning tonight as to who the next manager will be as this is the biggest decision they have at the moment ( logic says they should have been doing it before this but....) but I suspect they won't

He needs to give up on that for his own peace of mind I think. I know he got paid a fortune at Juve but it was hardly successful, I’m not sure how Nice fc went but they didn’t want to keep him, then here for two terrible seasons. Not forgetting his woeful showing at the World Cup…..I’d just give up and maybe try coaching….

For what it's worth I would absolutely welcome him as manager. Think would be fascinating and could be just what we need.

At the very least we know he has good contacts, we know he knows what he's on about, he's already got respect. Not something we could say about riza hudson morison......

Ramsey being appointed quickly with his coaching staff would be a huge positive.

    It isn't happening though.!

I'm waiting for the we will be taking our time announcement before a complete feck up appointment is announced mid summer.

Let's get some positivity back straight away.

    Re: Ramsey

A visibly emotional Aaron Ramsey said he was "gutted" after his Cardiff City side were relegated, and he has told the club what needs to be done to bounce straight back up next season. The Bluebirds were held to a goalless draw at home to West Brom, sealing a fate that has been a long time coming.

"I'm gutted," he said after the match. "Obviously I'm a fan as well. It's sad to see this club going down. The fans have had a difficult time this season. I feel for them. I know how they are feeling. I want to say I'm proud of the last couple of performances. The level of information they've taken over such a short space of time was evident to see.

"We could have won on other days, but the reality is, we haven't been good enough over the course of the season, but we have to accept that.

"We need to have a bit of time to reflect and have a think about that, but from the last couple of weeks, giving these boys the opportunities they deserve and giving them that belief and new ideas. It was pretty evident to see the way these boys and the performances they are capable of doing.

"Confidence, as well, it's been a tough season. With confidence you are probably winning those games comfortably. We went to toe to toe with a really good team. They should be competing for play-off places and maybe even the top two, we can be proud of what we've shown in the last couple of games."

It's been yet another season in which Cardiff have chopped and changed managers, dithered with decision-making, while the players have played well below the sum of their parts, too. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community.

The scenes at full-time were damning, as well, with supporters chanting for the owner, Vincent Tan, to "get out of our club" after another catastrophic campaign limped to its sorry conclusion.

The chaotic nature of this club in recent seasons has led to this point, of that there is no question. Eight managers in the last four years and three relegation battles in four seasons. This year, one of those last three spots just seemed to have their name on it, from a long way out.

Ramsey says getting back up to the Championship at the first time of asking is "so important" and implored the board to get the right staff in place in order to give the club the best chance of bouncing back immediately.

"If the right structure is in place, with the coaching staff and things like that, these players will give you everything, like the last few games, two really positive performances," he added.

"With a good pre-season, fine tuning a few bits, the players will realise what to do without getting information on to them, they will already be adapted to that and can see things themselves, to really be proactive and change things.

"If they can do that and give them the opportunities they deserve, they are more than capable of coming straight back up. There is a lot of quality in that team. They should be competing at the top end of this league, never mind League One."

A lot of the fans' anger has largely been aimed at the lack of footballing knowledge at the club. The lack of a director of football, or equivalent, and dearth of people in full-time positions at the top end of the club running it from day to day has been a constant gripe for some time.

Asked specifically about the structure above the coaching staff and what his thoughts were on potential changes there, Ramsey replied: "Things are a little different to what I've experienced at other clubs. Normally you do have a head of football or a sporting director, things like that, who are overseeing everything, day-to-day operations and they are aligned with the club.

"But the biggest thing for me is making sure the right coaching staff is there, because they drive the right habits and create a culture, so that's the most important thing, making the right decision in that and trusting the right person with that to bring in the right people around them, who has the team's best interest at heart.

"That's half the battle, the rest can take care of itself."

The 34-year-old's own contract is up at the end of the season, although there is an option for another 12 months. He is out of action with a hamstring injury and is some months away from a return. He said he wants to digest what's happened now, spend time with the family and then decide what happens next.

But when asked if he would offer his view on who he thought should be the next Bluebirds boss, Ramsey said: "I know I care a lot about this club, so I'd be happy enough to be in those discussions. But we will see."

Ramsey concluded by giving a passionate and heartfelt thank you to the Bluebirds fans, who backed his side to the hilt during his two-match home tenure.

"I just want to say a massive thank you, it means a lot to me and a lot to the players," he added. "To see us reconnecting again, they played a part. I'm just gutted we didn't get to celebrate a win together in the last two games. They have been excellent.

"You show that level of intensity and work rate, they will back you all day long. They are going to be huge to get this club back to where it belongs."

Dont be so ****ing ridiculous. Hes not a manager. Zero experience. Nothing to suggest hes anywhere near ready for such a job.

Get Ramsey off the wage bill and appoint a proper manager. That will be a start.

Difficult to think of a reason not to give it to Ramsey which probably means Tan wont give it to Ramsey. League 1 a perfect level for him to start his managerial career.

The club needs Ramsey more than he needs the club. If offered he should take the job on certain conditions: Tan to agree to stay out of all day to day football decisions, Ramsey to appoint his own coaching staff (Gunter et al), a Director of Football to be appointed to the board to oversee the long-term strategic vision of the club, Choo to be replaced by a full-time Chief Executive with experience of running a serious football club, the entire recruitment team to be sacked and replaced by a modern fit for purpose structure and the provision of a transfer budget suitable for achieving promotion back to the Championship.

I'm for Ramsey. We won't get anything better as the last years have proven. lets ship out the crap and get some players with hearts that are bigger than their wallets

Should have done it when Bulut was sacked. That was the time, not now. He's doing very well at Charlton and is enjoying it there. They'll have a good chance of going up through the play-offs. Even if they don't, he won't be a manager in League One under the likes of Tan and Mehmet. He's got more sense than that.

Mowbray. Seems like more of what got them relegated....a la McCarthy, Colin etc. .... another aging manager whose best days are probably behind him. Maybe.

The club needs to look beyond the manager. Tan needs to take a back seat or sell up. Mehmet and Choo should be nowhere near a football club. Until they address these issues, it's somewhat irrelevant who they get in as manager.

I'm not sure the effort and application has been lacking - just ability.

The club was criticised for appointing Riza because he had no experience. Now there seems to be a clamour to give the job to Ramsey who has never managed before. Signing Ramsey as a player was an expensive mistake and based on reputation rather than ability.- I hope the club don''t make a similar mistake again with the manager's position.

It wasn't just his experience or lack of for riza. It was everything he said as soon as he got given the chance. Some liked it but for me it was inevitable immediately would end with him hitting out at everyone but himself.

    Agree 100%

We need a manager who has (1) experience (2) at this level and (3) the stature to demand that all football/squad-related decisions are his alone.

Despite his history with the club and his very sensible assessment of the clubs situation, Ramsey has none of the necessary attributes (yet).

Russell Slade ticks the 1st 2.

    Steve Evans?

Or do we look at a young ambitious manager who has to start in the lower leagues.?

Re: Ramsey "happy enough for his name to be discussed as next manager"

Riza and Ramsey had no real experience.

However Ramsey has been at the top. Players respect his thoughts and game plan.. They were probably pissin themselves with Riza.

I'd go for Ramsey and a good backroom coaching team

    Exactly.

Ramsey has to start somewhere if he's looking for a managerial career.

A position at a Lower League football club is a decent start for him.

Those against Ramsey where would they expect he starts? Merthyr?

Re: Ramsey "happy enough for his name to be discussed as next manager"

Agreed there are fundamental differences bwetween Ramsey and Riza in terms of background etc. What I do know however is that Ramsey has been part of a City squad that has been limp, listless and leaderless for 18 months. It doesn't inspire me with confidence.
