Mike Peters has passed away after a 30 year long battle with Cancer.
He seemed like an incredible guy.

That's sad news. The awful disease was always going to get him in the end, but to have fought it how he has. is a credit to both him and his wife Jules.
It is very sad but that this awful illness got him but isn't a surprise, he battled it for almost half of his life, I saw the Alarm supporting U2 at the stadium in 1987 for the Joshua tree tour have just been looking through the pictures i took but dont have any of him, also saw the alarm when they used to have the weekend festival Infront of the city hall, a very good live act i thought.Originally Posted by Mr Soul '68

As has been said, there was a sense of inevitability about today’s news and I suppose he did well to make it to 66 considering he’d been battling cancer for nearly 30 years.
Can’t say I was ever a huge Alarm fan, but I saw them at that U2 concert in 1987 and enjoyed them more than I thought I would - as Heathblue says, they were a good live act.
Mike Peters always came over as a genuine and decent bloke it seemed to me.

68 Guns on Top of the Pops was a breath of fresh air at a time when there was a general drop off in anything vaguely alternative hitting the mainstream. Sounds a bit dated now perhaps but I still admire their rebel style with no shortage of references to Welsh history and politics.

I know that HB is a big fan and that he invests in a few of Bono's 'Business interests' in Africa..............

I'm quite surprised to read that TOBW went to the U2 gig to be honest. (never had him as a bono fan
Not the greatest fan of stadium gigs, at the time I did like U2 and the Joshua Tree IMO, is a brilliant album which is played right through with no fillers, whilst i still think the Joshua Tree album stands the test of time, the band I wouldn't open the curtains now and watch them in my back garden, I saw the Zoo TV tour 1993 in the stadium which was OK and also their last Cardiff stadium gig in the new stadium, cannot remember the year or the album it was supporting, but it was crapish (awful sound), my lad is still doing a bit and played in Norway on Saturday.

The main reason I went was to see the Pretenders who turned out to be awful because they collectively had a cob on for some reason and were just arsey for the what seemed to be about half an hour they played. The Alarm were good, U2 much as I thought they’d be (very stadium rockish- they were arguably the biggest band in the world at the time) and the group of about ten of us who went together were impressed by the first band to play, the Silencers.Not wanting to hijack this thread, although i'm sure that Mike Peters wouldn't mind me asking the question, but what was that U2 stadium gig like? ame question to Heath or whoever else went. That's great about your lad, i can only imagine what it must be like to be talented enough that it could enable travel to different countries. Joshua Tree is good, although i liked Boy as well, although nota big fan overall, Bono makes me wretch a bit....... Nice pic, not like you to set yourself up behind a few ladies...

The Pretenders, 'Kid' What a tune... I watched Simple Minds at the National Stadium, it was all a bit much for me, too big, too many people, too many distractions. I actually felt the same during the FA cup final. Anyway, Back to Mike Peters, RIP. He did loads for cancer charities.
Saw The Pretenders in The Rank around about 79/80, supported by UB40. Great entertainment that night.
Saw The Alarm about 30 years ago in the (now sadly long closed) Boardwalk in Sheffield. Brilliant gig - one of the best in my memory.
Very sad that cancer finally got Mike Peters. One of the good ones.

Watched The Alarm in Rhydycar Leisure Centre 87 I think.
Wasn't really a fan but went along with a girlfriend from school. Lots of 15/16 year old kids there and Mike Peters came out to speak to some which he didn't need to do.
From what I've seen of him on tv he seemed like a really decent lad.
Match going football fan too.
You can watch the whole thing (split in two parts) on YouTube in awful quality, but it's the best we have. Sure does bring back a lot of memories. I was 15 at the time and considered it the best day of my life at that point.
