£6 million wasn’t it? The notion that he won a couple of headers so that huge outlay was justified in some way is for the birds. Madine was a complete waste of money, but I don’t think he made no impression with City because there was always the penalty miss against Wolves.

But we did get up. He also had the balls to take that pen, as Hoilett didn't want it and was the nominated taker. He was crap for us but we've had some absolute donkeys here that didn't take us up.

I'm sure David Greene knocked in a couple of own goals while he was with us.

There was a game at Hull we lost 2-0, one was by Greene, think the other one was by Danny Gabbidon.

We were the highest scorers out of the 92 in 00/01, but if you added in all of the own goals we scored as well, we would have got about 120.

A player who scored two own goals that season doesn’t qualify for this question I reckon - Andy Jordan definitely made an impression while he was here.

Madine got 2 big assists that season. He obviously wasn't even decent but we did get promoted so I am prepared to give that signing some leeway

I agree. Think people overlooked the couple of assists from him which helped us over the line. Arguably worth the £6m fee?
Not that I would argue with the Tyson Fury of the EFL.

Madine played 13 times for us, and wasn't beyond useless. He was a massive, massive overpay but we just got over the line. I don't think we get promoted if we didn't sign another striker to give Zohore a rest (and replace him when injured)

Evans scored a few goals that season doesn’t - Chesterfield were promoted on the back of some financial misdemeanours that were eventually discovered and he scored in both games against them.

Maximiliano Amondarian (I think) - but like some other signings who are maybe expected to become first team regulars he never got past the u21s. 0 appearances, 0 goals, 0 impressions, 0 regrets. Didn’t he arrive in the summer before the Malky Show in the Premier League?

That's the type of player i was thinking, If you sat in a dark room for a month and were told the try and think of one thing Mathew Kennedy did for us on the pitch, you'd fail.

I only remembered him Dennis as someone else mentioned Stuart O’Keefe (which is a great answer) who I think we signed at the same time in some sort of ‘double swoop’.

And yet both were entirely unremarkable.

I will forever be grateful to Gavin Gordon for the way he clattered into Rio Ferdinand in the FA Cup game against Leeds in 2001, and Ferdinand had to go off injured. Ferdinand had to hobble past the Grandstand (Canton End) who rose as one out of their seats, to chant "what a waste of money" at him. The look on his face as he gazed up at us was priceless. For that act alone, GG was worth his signing fee. 500,000 I think?

I think we all assumed he was going to make the first team because of his name. There was little to suggest from a footballing point of view that he would.
