I've not heard any of their music, and I'm not familiar with their political stance.
presumably these guys are all to young to remember the troubles themselves? are they just fetishizing something they no nothing about or do they have some interesting points?
Has anyone considered that they've been removed from Glastonbury because they are Irish wank. Its derivative music by numbers. ****ing awful and anyone who listens to it quickly appreciates.
I'm surprised they don't sing "up the 'ra" as an encore. Music and politics should be kept well apart.
music is a form of entertainment, whilst there can be meaning to songs, (killing in the name is an obvious choice), unless you're into skrewdriver, most people go to gigs to get away from their every day life, and not to have someone else's political opinion forced down their throat.
Ah only sing about approved topics that doesn't offend right wingers, got it.
John Lennon, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Rolling Stones, Beatles, as you say Rage Against the Machine, Bob Dylan, Springsteen all sung political songs. National anthems are political, should those go as well?
Music has always been closely linked to politics.
I have never been to a Kneecap gig, but my wild guess is that none of the thousands who went to see them at the Wide Awake Festival were surprised or put off by the political content of their performance.
It is also my wild guess that many - if not most - went because they wanted to listen to that political content. It is surely what Kneecap are about?
If you want to avoid politics in music, don't watch or listen to political bands. Artists should stick to what they want to do and say - not play safe.
Stop your nonsense
Indie pop pap is a waste of time
Sabbath War Pigs is a fantastic anti war song and in its time was overtly political
Metal has always been mostly left of centre and whilst I find Springsteen a bit long in the tooth some of his protest songs are bang on
You spend the rest of your life listening to the mock turtles and all that whiney nonsense
Nothing wrong with bands being political. Although I must admit, it can creates divisions if its overly so, and it can be tiresome, particularly if you get the vibe you are being lectured at by people far wealthier than yourself.
I do sense that with Kneecap. They are angry young men and politics is part and parcel of their shtick and that's up to them. I think it's quite sectarian myself but that's up to them, I have no issue with it per se and enjoy loads of Irish folk music. They do come across are total wankers mind, but angry young men often do.
The issue here goes beyond all that though. I just don't see how they arent in big trouble
Typo: I meant I *don't* sense that kneecap are lecturing whilst being far wealthier.
Yeah I don't think anyone questions any artists legal, moral or artistic right to make whatever political or religious statements they like. It's important they can, and people will judge them on it. Most bands will want to express themselves but also try to be inclusive, but that's up to them.
The question here is whether a line has been crossed isn't it. I'm increasingly convinced it has tbh
