Where did the BBC or anyone say the only person arrested was arrested for assaulting the driver?
Why on earth would you say you "think" the person arrested was arrested for assaulting the driver?
It can't have been from social media as the videos are clear of the driver and were straight away so genuinely curious where you got your info from?
The wording was "We believe him to be the driver".
I think they phrase it like that so when it goes to trial, it's not something that can be used to call mistrial, to presume innocence before being proven guilty.
It's why police officers say "suspicion of crime", rather than just "crime", I guess unless they see it with their own eyes.
Best stop the bitching, people.
from what I've read it seems he was going about 20mph and honking his horn to try to force his way through the crowd.
seems more like idiotic and reckless behaviour than actually trying to injure people, although thats not going to be any consolation to anyone who was hit by the car.
As usual these days, social media was an absolute cesspit last night.
Initially, there was a vitriolic outpouring of anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant abuse. Then, when it became clear that the driver was a middle-aged white British male, the right-wing snowflakes were up in arms that the police had dared to describe the man in custody as 'white'. Meanwhile, others were suggesting the police statements were a smokescreen to cover up the truth.
What a world we're living in.
I agree. It doesnt appear premeditated, he didnt plough into the supporters at high speed as weve seen in other cases of this nature. Seemed to me he panicked once they started bashing his car up and putting his windows through and that caused him to put his foot down futher and injure even more people.
Idiotic driving either way.
I saw posts from prominent right-wingers saying stuff like 'I've been told the driver isn't white and the person arrested wasn't the driver' and 'it's all a cover up' and yet, despite people replying with videos of the driver, they still refused to believe the evidence presented to them on a plate.
As someone else has suggested, I just think he panicked after being caught up in the crowd and drove off when people started attacking his car.
The truth will out, but there'll still be plenty who won't believe it.

Guys been charged with attempted murder and driving under the influence. Also seems he tailgated behind an ambulance to get past a road block
These presumably are the kind of bollards that delivery and emergency vehicles can raise automatically?
The right wingers and conspiracy theorists are just as dangerous as the real terrorists.
