Jack Wilshere the front runner for the Plymouth job
I wonder if he was 1 of the 100 initial alleged applicants for us !
Jim Goodwin now 12/1 Dundee managed, not noticed him previously in the odds
Well, according to the other place we've been pursuing Jones throughout but Charlton's severance valuation increased upon promotion to around Ł4.5m incl. back up staff. Tan wanted to pay over 5 years but Charlton insisted all up front.
The mind boggles at what the club's back-up plan is, if this is true.
I know the club gets criticised for shopping in the yellow sticker section of the market, but I'm not sure why, now we're a lower league club, we need to go out on a limb for someone of this stature (especially as he's likely to be sacked in a year). There are other options if we're looking for a short term fix. Also, if we're going to pay 4.5M (ish) can't we look for something better and long-term? Answer: probably not.
I honestly don't understand why anyone would believe that ITK posts on a message board (whichever one) have anything to do with truth. There was a time long, long ago when the club had a Deep Throat and an association with ice-cream lickers, but that is no longer the case.
From what I can see most of these posts (and the fee or salary figures that are also sprayed around) come from pure sad-kid-in-a-bedroom wind ups on the net, from people like Abbandonato or Witcoop who need to appear relevant and connected (even when the quality of their so-called information is often shit) and from home grown posters who need attention and think they are bound to get it right one day!
Yep overwhelming majority of it is clearly bollocks, a small percentage are agents pushing their own agendas, an equally small amount then may actually have some level of truth.
It's quite easy to look like you know something, just hedge your bets across four or five different managers and then sing from the rooftops when one of them comes in.
Leave it 5 months and we could get NJ for nothing. Football is fickle a bad start and he could get the chop![]()
Elsewhere Liam Manning is the new Norwich manager.
And Ryan Mason is the new West Brom manager.
not that I'm bothered with football at a higher level![]()
Well, they've managed it. Incredibly, Cardiff City have now taken longer to sort out the manager situation in the summer of 2025 than they did in 2023 and 2024 when we appointed Bulut on 3 /6/23 and it was confirmed he'd signed his new contract on the same day last year.
Can you imagine if Amazon Prime had commissioned a 'Welcome to Cardiff' series a couple of years ago. It would have been comedy gold with Tan, Dalman, Choo, Bulut, Riza ringing up fans, an insight to the workings of our recruitment team, the interviews, the chasing of unwilling managers, the list is endless. If only..
It's cruel, but my favourite one out of those fly on the wall documentaries about football clubs is still the Sunderland one because it's about failure. I don't think I'm alone in thinking that way, so one about City would be very appealing to a certain type of fan I'm sure.
Funny you mention unwilling managers, here's the latest odds with a very close race going on for first place;-

When I first saw the page I linked, the thought did cross my mind "how many of those really want the job"? I'm sure Buckingham did, but I've seen it said that the pursuit of Nathan Jones made it clear to him that he was a second choice for the job and so who could blame him if he opted for one of the other jobs he's been linked with (e.g. Plymouth or Notts County)? Ramsey wants to keep on playing we're told and, a;though Jones has spoken in the past about his desire to manage City one day, his only public comment I'm aware of since Charlton were promoted is one saying he will be staying with them.
I've maintained for years that there are plenty of good managers who would not work for Tan and it seems to me that the number is probably growing given how we acted after sacking Bulut and now after sacking Riza.
On the flip side, there are only 92 positions available, and some ex managers will be in a strong financial position where they can afford to wait and pick and choose their next position.
Lots of others won’t, and will see it as an opportunity where they can get back into day to day football and raise their profile

I wouldn't have said that really
Was funny typical city, then just became boring, now it's beyond ridiculous.
It wouldn't surprise me if Plymouth, having been actually caught out by their manager leaving a month after ours still manage to do a proper recruitment process and hire someone before us.
We will eventually hire someone, probably being allowed to bring one or two staff with him and that will be our structure change complete.
This is turning into quite the race between the manager announcement, new kit announcement and fixture release announcement.
