    Re: Offer made to Barry-Murphy

"Cardiff City have offered the manager’s job to Brian Barry-Murphy but are waiting on Leicester City to release him from his contract at the King Power Stadium, WalesOnline has learned.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s high-rated number two is still tied up with the Foxes.

Sources close to Leicester indicate that is the reason for the delay as Cardiff finally seek to put their management search to bed.

The two clubs are said to be in conversations to try to resolve the issue, with Vincent Tan’s Bluebirds keen to get Barry-Murphy into the role as quickly as possible.

Cardiff’s manager hunt has dragged on since the end of the season, but Leicester need to sanction Barry-Murphy’s release before an official announcement can be made by Wales’ capital city club.

    ...

Plymouth are also keen on landing Barry-Murphy, but we understand he is excited by the prospect of unlocking the huge potential at Cardiff and has accepted the offer to come to Wales.

First, however, Leicester need to agree to his exit, with Cardiff keen to make the formal announcement."

Shouldn't have to pay too much to secure the release of an assistant manager should you?

    Re: Offer made to Barry-Murphy

I wonder if the delay is because the management team at Leicester could be sacked and are holding out for a pay out.

    Good point.

The wording of the WOL article is strange: that the club have ‘asked’ BBM to become manager. It makes the club sound even more desperate….

This whole process has been underwhelming beyond belief.

Anyone know how long Barry-Murphy’s contract at Leicester was for? However, long it is though, any compensation we pay will surely be less than what we were willing to pay for Nathan Jones.

We shouldn't pay anything they are all about to be sacked.

I recall Van Nistlerooy saying his contract was up at the end of June so I guess the manager coaching team is the same.

I had it in the back of my mind that contracts were up at the end of the month as well - can’t think from where though.

I like to think this could be a really good move. I hope it comes off.

Anyone buying a shirt with his name on the back? Need a loan for the letters.

I agree. The whole process has been cringeworthy. If BBM is the choice, we're placing our faith in a young "manager" with little experience in his own right. Could be a masterstroke, however I remain underwhelmed too.

Brian Barry-Murphy's Barmy Army.........hardly rolls off the tongue easily, does it?

Unfortunately that team finished 18th with 36 points and with a goal difference of -18 (from 34 games only due to the league being suspended)

the following season they were relegated.

He has comfortably the worst managerial record of any of the people we've interviewed (Ramsey aside).

I suspect that the Brian would be dispensed with.

And so it begins. Fans moaning and groaning about the new manager progress. The man they seem to be going for hasn’t even put pen to paper and fans like you are already feeling under whelmed. It’s ****ing mind numbing on here at times.

I think we need to put his time at Rochdale in context. He took over in April 2019 and got them out of the relegation positions to survive (having only just survived the previous season too). The next season they finished 18th, then they went down to League Two in 2021. He then resigned, and they survived one season in L2 before dropping down to the National League where they've been since, fighting against liquidation this year. It's a small club with very limited resources that did well to survive in L1 as long as did.

Appointing him is more of a gamble than some of the others linked, but I think there's more to him than someone who got Rochdale relegated.

Plymouth no longer after him after Tom Cleverley has just gone in there.

Yes, yes, but he's going to develop our golden generation and give youth a chance. It's not all about winning football matches..

I agree, Rochdale was his first job in coaching/management and Man City his second. Man City are not in the business of hiring dummies and he can only have got his job with them on the back of what he did at Rochdale. Therefore, even though he has a relegation on his managerial CV, it’s over simplifying things to say he failed at Rochdale.

We’d have been telling them to lump it after the 4th pass…….
