Could well do, especially as their manager's our former academy head.

Pity Horvath is retained. Hope they can hawk him around for a fee.

A big mistake I think. Conte has the potential to play for a much bigger club. Very disappointed.

Think we should say thanks and cheerio to Ralls and Rino. If we're getting a manager who likes a bit of possession, then I'm not sure how Rino would fit. Ralls has been a good servant but I got fed up watching him switch off and let an opposition midfielder amble into our box.

Conte had moments but that was about it. The one from the youth teams that surprised me was Joseff Edwards, who looked quite good in the U21 game I saw (although I only half-watched and it might not be the lad I'm thinking of - this is probably why they didn't ask for my opinion).

I was surprised about Conte, but he’s 22, no whipper snapper, and hardly set the world alight in the national league

Plenty on that retained less we should be actively looking to offload on frees if there are takers.

    Re: Retained list announced

I wonder who decided on the retained list?

    Re: Retained list announced

Ramsey decision is the right one. My work colleague said it best: He spent more time on the medical table than on the pitch in his comeback.

Got to be in the region of £100k a week which shows how much money we waste on mediocre players.

Let's move on Chambers, Hovarth, Rinomohta, Wintle, Willock and Ralls (thanks for the memories) and save another £100k

That's being generous. Let's be honest the whole thing was a bit of a farce from start to finish, but nobody was allowed to say anything. It was like the Emperor's New Clothes.

Let's be brutally honest, and stop the silly loyalty nonsense. The majority of the players on the retained list are not there on merit! They are there because they have contracts, it is them who got us relegated and in last place.

The club have off loaded some - thankfully, but the vast majority need to step up to the mark asap otherwise we'll be looking at another long depressing season.

That must be the quote of the day

Who on Earth is going to take some of them off our hands?

Colwill and King were squad players at L1 clubs, we need to be sensible regarding our expectations for them

Nobody if the truth be known. Certainly no club would buy any of them, but may take a chance on picking up their wage bill.

From that retained list, sell Horvath, Ng, Wintle, Willock and Etete. Turnbull and Chambers to cut the wage bill a bit too.

I've said we need a veteran defender to lead the back-line, a wing-back or two, a winger like Poku from Peterborough, another keeper and some reinforcements in midfield. I'd also like O'Dowda to actually get a chance to play on the attacking wing again, he was pretty good at it, but has been forced to play wing-back.

Id be surprised if we had much interest in any of these. Ng maybe. It’s more likely we’ll move on the likes of Salech / Robinson, Robertson and Colwill so we can keep paying the wages of the above players

I forgot Robinson, move him on. Maybe, MAYBE move on Colwill if the price is good enough. Salech and Robertson should not be for sale.

Good luck with shifting those lot, nobody is going to buy half a relegation side and someone who couldn't get a kick for Millwall!

Most of them can play at Championship level besides Etete. Maybe Willock and Wintle to League One, and Etete to L2/Conference.

If we can get Horvarth Etete Willock Chambers Wintle Turnbull out of the club on free transfers then we've done well.

Saying that Wintle will be useful in L1.

Cardiff City FC can confirm the retained list for the 2024/25 season.

    FIRST TEAM

Aaron Ramsey will leave the Bluebirds this summer. The Welsh captain rejoined his childhood Club during the summer of 2023, before taking up the role of caretaker manager for the final three games of the 2024/25 campaign. Aaron departs Cardiff City Stadium with our best wishes.

Club captain Joe Ralls and Andy Rinomhota remain in discussions with the Club at this time.

Jamilu Collins, Raheem Conte, Anwar El Ghazi, Kieron Evans, Dimitrios Goutas and Yakou Méïté will depart at the conclusion of their agreements on June 30th, 2025.

    U21

The Club have activated extended contract options on Josh Beecher, Jake Dennis, Trey George, Ewan Griffiths, Luke Pearce, Michael Reindorf, Will Spiers and Morgan Wigley. A contract offer has also been made to Isaac Jefferies.

Young professionals Freddie Cook, Cole Fleming, Adeteye Gbadehan, Baylin Johnson and Joseph Thomas will depart.

Professional contract offers have been made to graduating apprentices Jake Davies, Alyas Debono, Daniel Ola and Jac Thomas.

Joseff Edwards, Corey Foggarty, Osian Rees and Lennon Talbot will now leave the Club following the completion of their apprenticeships.

We’d like to thank all of the leaving players for their efforts and wish them all the very best for the future.

The full retained list of professionals can be found below:

Jak Alnwick, Luke Armstrong, Cian Ashford, Joel Bagan, Josh Beecher, Calum Chambers, Rubin Colwill, Joel Colwill, Jesper Daland, Isaak Davies, Jake Dennis, Kion Etete, Will Fish, Trey George, Luey Giles, Ewan Griffiths, Ethan Horvath, Sekou Kaba, Eli King, Ronan Kpakio, Dylan Lawlor, Dakarai Mafico, Perry Ng, Tanatswa Nyakuhwa, Callum O'Dowda, Luke Pearce, Troy Perrett, Michael Reindorf, Alex Robertson, Callum Robinson, Yousef Salech, Roko Šimić, Will Spiers, Ollie Tanner, Ryotaro Tsunoda, David Turnbull, Matthew Turner, Cody Twose, Morgan Wigley, Chris Willock, Ryan Wintle.
I think a few of the retained will be moved out soon too.
