    Plymouth appoint Cleverley

Plymouth, caught out when their manager decided he wanted to leave well after we removed Riza have appointed Tom Cleverley.

He didn't seem to be mentioned in any rumours for here but I wonder if he had been involved earlier in the process. Possibly not.

Wasn't he still working at Watford "earlier in the process"?

If he was involved, then maybe he withdrew his interest once a better offer came along?

I don’t think Cleverly is an appointment which would inspire much confidence in me, I appreciate that Watford is probably a poison chalice but with the players at his disposal I think the play offs were a very achievable goal which he never reached.

Based on what exactly? Are their players better than the players of the teams that did reach the play offs? I think not.

Looking at their squad, there were a number of players that were highly rated Louza, Wiley,Chakvedadze for instance, just my opinion based on their resources.

So we are now the only club in the division without a manager.

Given that every day hundreds of transfer negations are taking place and we presumably won't be involved in any of them, each passing day the lack of a manager becomes more and more of a serious issue.

    When does pre season start?

Whilst it's a valid point, I'm not too sure we were/are going to be very active this summer. I suspect the hierarchy (and I kind of would agree with them) believe that the current squad with two maybe three additions will be enough to get us in the mixer if they get the manager right.

The current squad with a major change of attitude might have enough to challenge for promotion, but I’m not fully convinced about that - we need a nucleus of on pitch organisers and leaders who are fit enough, motivated enough and good enough to be in the first eleven most weeks.

Yeah I agree, I don't think it would have been the busiest of summers, but still. There is clearly tactical considerations, transfers, team building etc going on at every club bar ours at the moment.

Maybe it makes no difference come August. I do feel that all things being equal we have a team capable of automatic promotion
