Nathan McAndrew isn't a bad bowler, but he's not a good one either. He's a slightly below average bowler who can biff it a bit, to sign him as an overseas player is quite a sign of low ambition. How the hell has he just taken 11 wickets in 2 games against us.
Kiran Carlson has looked right out of form this weekend. He’s such an important player for us, but he’s barely timed a shot well in the last two games - out for a laborious 8 today after Smale went first ball - 34-2 in the fifth over.
Kellaway looks such a good batsman at times, just stumped for 53 - 97-3 in the eleventh over.
Unbelievable innings from Asa Tribe at the end. A great innings from Glamorgan had suddenly slowed down at the wrong time. But 41 runs off the last 2 overs take us to 189
Fantastic, big win. Tough game coming against Somerset on Friday, but they lost today so they're certainly beatable.
Mason Crane’s taken a lot of wickets this season, but, with red ball cricket to return quite soon, it’s hard to see a way into the team for him for that. Our squad has got more depth to it this year than it’s had for some time with Tribe and Kellaway doing really well, Leonard coming along nicely and Smale establishing himself in the one day stuff.j
That's a good summing up. Hard to be critical of Douthwaite, it was a great knock, but having got us ahead of the game with four overs left and then hitting the next ball for 6 he didn't need to keep slogging then. He could've just waited for the bad balls and seen us home with mainly ones and twos. Easy to say with hindsight though. Once Tribe and Imad had wasted a few balls everyone had to thrash from then on and the chance had gone.
They did catch well, yes. Cooke was unlucky to get out the way he did, another couple of inches on Kellaway's drive and he'd have been up and running again. Fine margins. Two good away wins this week but it's going to be frustrating if we start doing a City and can't win our home games.
You're always going to go through runs of low scores if you open the batting in T20 or the Hundred cricket especially, so it's not his scores that bother me, but the way his shots were barely clearing fielders and then not havimng the power to reach the boundary. That's not Carlosn at all, he's a fearless team man who is easily capable of clearing the ropes. Don't think I saw him bat in the win at Essex because I definitely would have noticed if he had batted like he did over the weekend - hopefully, he'll have got his timing back by the time we next play.
Good couple of results for us yesterday. Bottom side Gloucester beat top 4 challengers Kent, and Surrey beat Sussex. Meaning we stay in the top 4 , just one win off the top.
Somerset started well against Hampshire today, a Somerset win would see us staying top 4, with the chance to remain a win from the top if we can turn Somerset over tomorrow
Beautiful evening down Sophia Gardens, good crowd, everyone chilled. Unfortunately all over as a contest less than 40 minutes in, Glamorgan 54 for 5 after 9 🙄
I'd demand my money back. B100dy useless display in front of your own fans.
Disastrous batting performance. Looked so good after first 2 overs then all downhill
Sussex, Surrey and Somerset look a class apart this season, so Glamorgan seem to be playing to be best of the rest. We’re just in a loop of win one, lose one and we’ve only got two matches left against the top 3 - I’d say we’ve got a decent chance of qualifying, but we’re effectively playing for just the one place.
I'm going to the Oval in a few weeks and was there when Ingram and Cooke were spraying Sixes all over the place. Sadly they've not shown any form this season to hold the batting together. The youngsters have tried and the coaches need to do their bit to stop rash shot selection.
The rot tends to start with Carlson doing something totally unnecessary and the rest follow. Asa tried to get us back on track for a respectable score then self destructed. A catalogue of faults tonight. Disappointing when there was a good crowd.
Tribe played a series of shots that could have got him out on another day before finally succumbing to one of them, but I think it’s a bit harsh to say he did well and then self destructed, which is more or less what you were saying - it’s in the nature of T20 and Hundred cricket especially that batsmen give their wicket away. Last season against Somerset, Carlson played a series of outrageous shots, but they came off and he got, rightly, praised for playing what was probably Glamorgan’s best ever T20 innings. Carlson never plays for his average in t20, most batsmen don’t, which means he’s going to self destruct sometimes. This season Glamorgan are clearly not as good as three sides in their group, so I’d rather praise them for being in the running to be the best of the rest than be critical of them when they play better teams.
Him and Cooke at 4 and 5 should be a perfect combination, wise old birds who can consolidate or accelerate depending on the situation, but it hasn't worked at all. The writing was on the wall when they messed up the chase in the Surrey game. At least Ingram has got a 39, 37 and 38 in his last four innings, Cooke's eight scores so far have been 16, 10, 10, 6, 21,11, 11 and 4.
They're both well in credit here over the years, of course, and I'm sure the thinking is 'don't worry, they'll come good' (and they probably will) but it feels like we've got enough of a squad to do some rotation when the top order are out of form.
