Thread: GLAMMY

    Re: GLAMMY

Bad, but expected news about former England fast bowler David Lawrence this morning- he’s become the latest sporting victim of MND at 61.

    RIP

Meanwhile, Glamorgan win the toss and will bat in their return to four day cricket at top of the table Leicestershire.

    105-1 at lunch.

  3. #6678

    Re: GLAMMY

165-2 with Asa Tribe having just gone to a maiden hundred.

    Re: GLAMMY

Glamorgan 305-5 at the close. They’re using the Kookaburra ball which, in previous years when used in this country, has tended to go soft quickly and lead to pretty dull cricket which goes some way to explaining why Glamorgan have chugged along at three anover all day. Still, they’ve got the runs on the board and Colin Ingram is 56 not out. Congratulations as well to Asa Tribe who is celebrating a well deserved first hundred.

The bad news is Derbyshire have had a good day at Bristol, bowling Gloucestershire out for less than two hundred and they were 70-1 last time I looked.

Bore da, awful start to Monday and poor shot from Ingram.

    Re: GLAMMY

A collapse to 353 all out, at least they managed to get a third batting point off the last ball of the 110th over.

Leics galloping along at 5 an over. Only 1 down. Worried!

    A costly collapse

    Re: GLAMMY

Glamorgan’s worst day of their season so far - got to credit Leicestershire though, they’re looking an outstanding team at this level.

Derbyshire well on the way to victory as well.

    Re: GLAMMY

I’d given up on this game after our awful second day and the third one wasn’t much better, but Northeast and Ingram have batted through the first session and we’re 9 behind Leicestershire now at 214-3 - Northeast 118 and Ingram 72. The new ball is due in five overs and if we can survive that without too much damage, we could escape with a draw.

You don’t get too many sides declaring and setting targets these days, but, after being miles behind over the first half of the game, Gloucestershire have declared and set Derbyshire 316 to win in two sessions.

    Re: GLAMMY

Shame that Northeast threw his wicket away in the end (Kent trying to sign Northeast for next season, by the way. I wonder if that's why he wasn't considered for the T20, or whether it prompted him to look elsewhere).

You'd like to think they've got enough to bat until 5pm to secure the draw though.

Match drawn, Glamorgan 342-6 withIngram batting throughout the day for 133 not out. Good result in the end considering how far behind they were this time yesterday.

Derbyshire need 100 with six wickets standing.

Good effort in the 2nd innings against the top of the table side.

Tense finish at Bristol where Derbyshire need 38 to win with three wickets left and nine overs to go.

8 down now, still need 33.

GLOUCS v DERBYSHIRE 20 to win of 6 balls

    Re: GLAMMY

Derbyshire move a point further in front of us then. They drawn two games with eight wickets down and had nine down against us - our failure to get the win in that game looks potentially very expensive.

Don't forget we scored 80 more than that last season and didn't win.

I 've mentioned before on here about a second XI game in 1997 when Warwickshire set Somerset 612 to win. Somerset got to 595-7 then Marcus Trescothick was run out for 322 and Somerset were bowled out for 605 to lose by six runs.

I think that innings was a turning point for Trescothick at Somerset so he's probably got fond memories of it now but it must've been a bit of a sickener at the time.

I’m sure there was a Glamorgan v Somerset game at Swansea in the nineties where Trescothick batted at 8 and was in the side mainly as a medium pace bowler. I think there was another Glamorgan v Somerset where Trescothick so impressed then Glamorgan coach Duncan Fletcher that he was more or less straight into the England team when Fletcher took over from Bumble Lloyd.

The second one was a knock of 167 at Taunton. There's an article here about the innings that shaped his career and the 322 and that 167 are the first two mentioned.

I'd forgotten about his bowling but it rings a bell, I'd also forgotten he kept wicket for England in a few ODIs.

We lose Asa tribe for 4 day game starting Sunday and at least the next 4 blast games. Selected in jersey squad for t20WC euro qualifiers. Disappointing.
