Thread: Government Minister Resignation

    Re: Government Minister Resignation

First and foremost I feel sorry for her on a human level. I've spoken a bit on here about how people speak about MPs can be very unsavoury. It's a difficult job and she will feel embarrassed and useless for a period. We should all hope she's okay.

Other than that, it does reveal a rift. Starmer and Reeves seem a partnership and seem a good fit irrespective of if you like what they are doing. I have to say this week feels like the beginning of the end. That may take years and may not be true, but it's rare for such a public display of unhappiness to be meaningless. Normally after such an event someone will think "things can't carry on like this", even if it's Rachel Reeves just thinking none of this is worth it for her own sake.

I can remember there being rumours of Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng being more than. just good friends earlier in their political careers. Whether true or not, it was clear that when she first became PM, they were definitely political soul mates, yet Truss ditched Kwarteng in no time at all to try and save herself and, to a lesser degree, Starmer did the same yesterday with that typically useless answer he gave at PMQs. When Truss sacked him, Kwarteng, rightly as it turned out, said that it would not save her and much the same applies to Starmer in this case I'd say., He's far too deeply ensconced in the ineptitude, mystifying political choices, cowardice, cruelty and freebies culture of the Government he has played the leading part in shaping to be able to try to wriggle free by saying "nothing to do wioth me Guv". How Srarmer can be a dead man walking with four years of a one hundred and sixty seat majority Government to run yet is baffling, but that's what he looks like this morning.

It looks like Rachel will be leaving Accounts. Where next for her? I doubt it'll be a job in Customer Relations.

I don't think she'll go imminently. But she's lost another of her lives, and I don't think chancellors get given as many as cats do
