    Joe Cordina..

can't see any posts about his fight tonight so just a quick reminder that after a lengthy hiatus away from boxing Cardiff City fan Joe 'The Welsh Wizard' Cordina will be back in the ring within the hour, on the Catterall/Eubank undercard on DAZN.

dominant display from Joe tonight but the Mexican (Gonzalez) was no slouch, very gutsy performance..

a deserved win plus 10 rounds banked against a tough opponent.

Yep, did what was asked of him.
I hope he can kick on a bit and regain a title.

I know he must have been ring rusty and he basically did what he needed to do but I can't see him ever reaching the heights he's previously reached.
I hope he proves me wrong.

I agree. I think that he's in it for the money now, He's been world champion, 2 time would be nice, but i think that he's looking to cash out, and who can blame anyone in that sport for doing so, they deserve every penny they earn, and more. He looked rusty last night, he didn't need to trade with Gonzalez, and he was caught on quite a few occasions.

he has openly stated that these fights are to "secure his children's future" so at least he's honest about his intentions, however, he has also suggested that he does have his sights on another title but as you say I believe at 33 he is now past his best, the lighter weight groups require speed and agility which is greatly affected by age, 33 as a heavyweight is prime, 33 as a lightweight is elderly, even accounting for 'ring rust' I didn't see any signs of the Cordina that exchanged with Rakhimov a little over two years ago and took the win.

we shall see, one thing for sure is that he'll be in line for a lot tougher opponents than he faced last night in the next couple of fights.

And weight cutting when a boxer gets into their thirties, i wonder what his 'Walk around' weight is, because he was boiling down. I hope that he gets another shot and earns as much as he possibly can, it's a brutal sport in every respect.

my son boxes under Lee Selby, nobody struggled more than Lee when it came to cutting weight for fights, eventually he just couldn't do it and had to step up in weight, in doing so he had to contend with bigger punchers, Kambosos and Lemos were too much for him and shortly after he retired.

Cordina looks pretty close to his fighting weight naturally, i've seen him a few times 'in civvies' and he's very slight built.

going back to Lee, he's eyeing a potential return to the ring, but in bare knuckle, I guess the financial pull is very tempting, but money isn't everything and his legacy is secured, nothing to prove at all and so much to lose.

You're right about Selby, i was speaking to Chris Sanigar and he was saying that Selby would stop eating three days before a weigh in.

it's insane, at the weigh-in against Josh Warrington he looked emaciated, whereas Josh looked natural at the weight, the toll that must take on your body, your strength and even your mental acuity must be a huge disadvantage.

he told me once that he was laying on the bed in a hotel room the night before a weigh-in and was parched for a drink, said he felt like he was dying, he could see the bathroom tap from where he was laying but was too disciplined to take a drink.

that's the margins between success and failure I guess, I would've been two cans of 'bow down.

Yup, Selby knew that he couldn't win that fight, he should have moved up in weight before fighting Warrington, but the money was too good to turn it down. His Brother Andrew was some fighter, just ill disciplined to put it mildly.......
