    Colwill breakthrough season episode 46

The one thing I found encouraging from the friendly was how energetic and in shape Colwill looked. He looks like he’s lost some weight. Some have been crying out for him to be loaned out to a league one club so in true Cardiff City fashion we went and got relegated so he can shine.

Working with a manager who is great at developing young talent. Playing in a League where his class can show.

Could this be the season he fulfils his potential?

    Please…..

I hope he has an excellent season but let's not get ahead of ourselves. This is Tier 3 and he's now 23. Up to to this point he has only shown glimpses in the Championship.

Ramsey was whisked away to Arsenal in the PL as soon as he broke through into the first team as a teenager. Colwill is 4 or 5 seasons older than the age when Ramsey was transferred.

As I said, I hope Colwill has a good season but perspective is important. Why, at 23 yrs of age, hasn't he been bought by a PL team? Why hasn't he become a fixture in the Welsh team?

I don't know why we get excited by him. The kid is a donkey!

Re: Colwill breakthrough season episode 46

Yeah there are obvious reasons people don’t pick him up. I just hope he can get some consistency and not just flashes of brilliance among tepid displays.

That’s a little harsh. He has flashed of brilliance and shows his quality. It’s a consistency issue

Because consistently he is not good enough, he does not work hard enough and cannot last 90 minutes. Apart from that he is the next Wayne Rooney!

I would love him to prove me wrong.

Why is Rubin Colwill held to this weird set of standards that don't seem to apply to other players?

oyu can say something relatively innocuous like, I'm looking forward to watching him in league one, and i hope he can develop into the player we've all seen the potential of etc and someone will inevitably pop along with some other player who has achieved more by that age.
Players develop at different rates - Jamie Vardy was playing in non-league at the age of 23 - he went on to become an elite level striker.
Kieffer Moore was playing as a defender in the national league at 23.

Even if Rubin achieves nothing more in his career he will have done more in the game than most teenagers that are snapped up by premier league clubs, so it isn't really a sensible argument.

He’s going to destroy this league….for eight games.

Then we will all be wondering why he couldn’t do it for more games while ignoring the fact our other players did it for zero games.

Your first sentence, you need to read back some of the absolute Hyperbolic bullshit written on here about Colwill over the seasons by people who should really know better, and it will start again after a few promising performances from him. You would have thought that they had seen enough football, seen enough young players who have been hyped to hell and back, which is unfair and borderline irresponsible in my opinion, but there we go. I recall someone on here, after witnessing Alves and Mannsverk for the first time, saying that they were premier League players in waiting, absolutely bonkers. As for Colwill, I think that he will do well this season, a lower level, more time, he won't be punished as much for mistakes, and opportunities will come his way. He also has ability, just depends on what the new manager wants from him, not us

This with knobs on. There are some people who will always highlight his weaknesses and never acknowledge his strengths. They will say "I hope he proves me wrong". But they don't really mean it.

Hyperbole is a figure of speech employing extreme exaggeration to create emphasis or a dramatic effect.... a bit like "........ how anyone can take anything from a joke game like this is beyond me."

Someone said he was linked with a £2Million bid by Palace and that City wanted £4Million.

I do not judge players, or specifically Colwill, by, 'wierd standards,' or different standards. I judge them and him by the same standard as I do every Cardiff City player. Your last paragraph, which contradicts the idea that cream rises to the top, I would not agree with. What has Colwill achieved so far in his career? That said I do hope he has a good season, albeit in Tier 3.

I have nothing against Colwill. However, if he was as good as some say he is he would have long since left Cardiff City. A fee of £2m by a PL club is peanuts when average PL players go for £20m.

I think he will improve a lot, he has a clean slate with an experienced youth coach as Manager against poor quality opponents, this has to be his year!

I'm hoping Lawlor and Ashford can mature and shine too.

The people who are saying he's told old to realise his potential are talking out of their hats. Many footballers dont hit their straps until their mid 20's, wonderkids like Owen, Rooney and Ramsey are the exception, not the rule

For a recent example, when Viktor Gyokeres was 23 (the same age as Colwill), he was scoring 0 goals in 11 games on loan to the Jacks. Now he's an £80 million sriker.

I take your point, although Wouldn't Victor Gyokeres also be an exception as well?

Dan James couldn't get in Shrewsburys team at 20.

He clearly has talent and ability, he's also quite a physical specimen, sadly he hasn't been consistent enough, I don't think all the upheaval in managers and coaches has helped nurture his talents. Hopefully this season, at a lower level he'll be able to flourish.
