I’d never heard it before, or since. She told me it was a Cardiff saying, but to this day I think she just made it up
    Very common saying, still used

It’s daps, not trainers, Lew Clayton was a trainer

I think these dap wearers will look back in years to come and say 'What the feck did I look like'
The last time I wore a tie must have a couple of decades ago, I hate them with a vengeance.

This. Utterly pointless things. Wearing a tie with a short sleeved shirt is also the lowest of the low when it comes to fashion, never mind white daps.

Any person who says ‘Can I get’ should be told ‘Yes, it’s over there on the shelf (or wherever) but you’re not allowed behind the counter so f*ck off’ ……now if you’d have said ‘Can I have’……….

If you're going to wear a formal suit, It's usually going to look better with a tie. Sure, a tie's purpose is purely decoration, but what's wrong with that? People wear hats all the time when they're not needed.

    Why? What's the difference?

In the winter a hat can keep you warm, in the summer it can protect you. As for ties,I’ve had the same one for 52 yrs, and it still fits !!

Nobody wears ties in the office anymore, even if you’re wearing a suit. I have a large collection of ties sat in the back of the wardrobe from my days working in an office in the late 80’s / early 90’s. Fashions change, in those days the women in the office all wore high heels and stockings to work….

The word 'may' should be used rather than 'can', the latter pertaining to the ability to do something rather than the permission to do something.

As SP pointed out - a very common saying in Cardiff.

Get and have have different meanings.
‘Can I get one of those’ surely means that you are going to get it yourself.
‘Can I have’ implies you are asking someone to get it for you.

I threw a bunch of ties out a few weeks ago. I ditched my whole wardobe basically as all my clothes were too big. As for ties I just kept a black one, two maybe three patterned ones and this

    I’d say a mid 90’s tie
