Thread: Tom Heaton

  1. #1

    Tom Heaton

Recently signed a 1 year extension with Manchester United which will see him up until his 40th Birthday. Some achievement, although this is his 2nd spell with United, combined he has been with them for 9 years and is yet to make a first team League appearance if Wiki is correct. That has to be some kind of record, unless anyone else knows better.

I’ve always rated him. One of those players who should have had a much better career.

It’s probably more for their contribution in training with drills etc.

Agreed, three England caps as well.

A nonsense loop hole to fill the home grown players quota. Btec goalkeepers earning life changing money just to get around another bollocks PL rule.

Football and the PL in particular needs a full reset.

No worries! Not read the book but I've listened to a podcast on him, maybe two. Really charismatic guy it seems if he could fool so many people for so long.

After thinking about it in light of this thread, I reckon the best two keepers I've seen at the club in sixty two years os supporting it were both here at the same time - Heaton and Marshall.

I’m inclined to agree Bob. We’ve had some great keepers over the years, including Schmeichel who went on to great things after being with us probably a little early in his career.

No disrespect to Marshall but, of the two, I always felt that Heaton was the better keeper and deserved to be number one.

Marshall is the best keeper I've seen in a City shirt. Miles better than Heaton. In my opinion.

The one position that we've historically managed to get right (cough).

When I first started watching the City in the mid-70s, we had Bill Irwin and Ron Healey. Since that time, we've been blessed with some outstanding 'keepers.

You can't argue with me on this one Hilts, I played a whole season in goals for a Sunday pub side. I even made a save once.

    On the topic of keepers,
The German goalie made a brilliant save last night and if that wasn't enough, saved a couple of pens and scored a pen herself top class effort. Luckily for the commentators her name wasn't Minge!!!.

It was an outstanding save, especially when you find out she’s recovered from cancer twice.

I remember reading about this bloke in the Guardian some years back. I think there's a documentary about him somewhere. I don't think he made much money over his "career", but he was apparently able to to live "the life".

    Are you forgetting, we do get it wrong quite often;

    Ross Turnbull
    Tony Warner
    Peter Enkleman
    Dimi Konstantopoulos
    Stephen Bywater
    Stuart Taylor

Marshall was a magnificent shot-stopper but didn't come for crosses and let goals in whilst standing on his own goal line as a result.
