Whenever his name is mentioned in the media or here and the other place, it's almost always along the lines of 'we must keep him', he mustn't be sold even for £3-£4m' etc, etc. Is it just me then who doesn't really rate this guy that much ? I can only go by what I've seen - he's scored goals but nothing that says 'wow, that was good'. On Saturday he had 3 chances, one very good, and two half chances, the header he should have buried, the other two he just looked so pedestrian, which for me is his failing. He's painfully slow. Nothing would please me more that see him bang in a goal or two tonight to prove me wrong though !
Your the only one I know who doesn't rate him.
He’s a striker and he’s scored goals when given the chance. Not sure what else you want him to do? Hopefully he gets a consistent run in the team this season.
If he had pace and was prolific he really wouldn't be playing for Cardiff in League 1.
I like him, I feel like he wants to be here and wants to do be successful. I think he has the physicality and attributes to do well in this league, how much potential he has beyond that is anyone's guess.
I think he looks very promising but there is always a danger of overestimating his capabilities as the early impressions may be badly influenced by seeing Kanga and Etete up front for us. How he comes across in his pressers is really impressive for his age and experience which to me suggests he has the right temperament and commitment to be a success.
Salech’ s scoring figures were very similar to Sory Kaba’s during his loan spell. I wasn’t the only City fan who thought Kaba wasn’t much of a player and that he only offered the, very useful, knack of sticking the ball in the net at pretty regular intervals. It seems to me that Salech offers more than Kaba did, but is he really a 25 goals a season man at this level and does he have the all round game to merit the sort of transfer value I’ve seen applied to him (£10 to 11 million)? I think he could get 25, but we’d have to be up there challenging all season and scoring goals for fun - I suppose if the first part happens and he does get those 25 goals, the second part will look after itself because he’d be valued at £10 million plus no matter what his all round game was like.
the guy knows where the goal is and with what we have had recently, thats a massive plus
the guy looks like he has some fight in him and again, with what we have had recently, thats another massive plus
"he's scored goals but nothing that says 'wow, that was good'."
Considering our record with strikers that don't score goals then I've been over the moon with him.
He was off form for sure, but I think he'll be better tonight, or in the following few games. BBM has said he's been working on his positional play. He's probably over thinking things like when you have an advanced driving lesson or golf lesson and they change your swing, you sometimes get a bit worse before you get better.
New team new ideas, it's very early. BBM is working with him, he'll get it and improve and he will score, provided Robinson doesn't keep him out of the team, or Davies. Although it looks like we will be playing the wingers very wide and getting crosses in, if so he should really thrive.
As long as we win, I'd rather Salech keep off scoring hat-tricks until after the transfer window closes, then open the flood gates!
OK, seems it is just me then !
I was thinking the same on Saturday, hoping someone else scores.
I'm convinced he will score for fun in this league. I've always rated him since he joined. He got stuck in at the end against the Jacks, and then scored when he came on against Millwall. He'd only been on the pitch a few minutes across both games. He seems to have a great attitude too.
He scored more before he cut his hair. Sampson syndrome
You were right on the first game this season, but I think most of us were hopeful it's just the change in the team and first game
It would be nice for him to get the mark tonight, mind, as we all know when strikers miss a few, they start to snap at chances and form and confidence can drop quickly.
Salech scored eight goals last season in a really poor Championship side and was often a serious handful for experienced defenders. He's aggressive and fully committed to physical battles with the opposition - everything Etete wasn't. And he definitely has the knack of getting himself into decent scoring positions.
Salech's only 23 years old and has started just 40 games in total at senior level, so there is plenty of room for improvement as he grows in experience. He's definitely a bit raw and I didn't think he had a good game on Saturday, but I'm confident he'll score plenty of goals at this level if provided with enough chances. In my view, he's a really promising talent.
Charlie Kelman (21) and Michael Cheek (25) were the only players in the entire EFL to score 20 or more goals last season. I would guess as front 3s are more in fashion, the goals are getting spread out a bit more?
I think Salech is a very good player and I think we should be asking for in excess of 10m. He's young enough, quick enough, physical enough to hold defenders off and hold the ball up and scores goals.
He's a finisher, my only concern is his pace
Apart from the fact he gives 100% and does what is asked of him, more importantly he’s a square peg in a square hole where we’ve had years of ‘all rounders’ and no clear identity.
In addition to his talent, he was the one that ran into the crowd to help the fan having a medical episode vs Stoke. He's one to keep for sure.
He was heavily marked in one game, that's why his impact was minimal last Saturday. That doesn't make him overrated.
Poor lad took one in the face today and was getting his shirt pulled a lot. Thought the ref could have protected him better and arguably he should have had a penalty.
