On Saturday Colwill was acting like a captain - from his personal performance to the way he was talking and organising. It was epitomised by the way he ran up to Robinson after his big miss, put his arm around him and got him pumped up again.
Last night there was none of that. The armband was with Chambers and Colwill seemed to revert to 2024-25 type.
I'll add that i do think that there has been an over reaction to yesterdays performance and that we will do pretty well this season, but we need three players who can take responsibility during games, players who are prepared to accept what is going on during a game and who are prepared to deal with it, fight fire with fire, with the ability to play a bit. Gunnarsson was perfect at playing that way, and a less injury prone joe ralls was very effective, we don't have players like that, players who can sort the middle out, turn things over and then get our creative players doing their thing. I remember Warnock bringing that midfield player in from Derby on loan during our promotion season (craig Bryson i think) in my opinion he did a tremendous job for us, although i have mentioned his name before and people on here haven't been that enthused, so maybe it was just me. Bryson won the ball back and gave it to our wide players or played the ball into Ken, if it was on, he moved into space with the ball or got beyond, but only when it was on. He was one of the fittest footballers i had ever seen as well. we need a player like that.
I'm sure you're right. There was not enough leadership on or off the pitch last season. This time around the few leaders we had have been replaced by youngsters. Hopefully some emerge - even if they are not old and ugly enough to fit the normal profile.
My comment about Colwill wasn't to knock him in particular for last night's performance (they all need knocking) but to say that he can do it when he sets his mind to it. I was pleasantly surprised by the way he handled the armband against Peterborough.
Fine wine pushing it a bit?
I would put it as more of a hot drink from a vending machine.
Drinkable but not in anyway something to celebrate massively
I know that you weren't knocking Colwill JonAnd i'm sure that due to your political beliefs and activism, you're well aware that standing up for the fight is difficult when everything else is against you, it takes bravery and it takes people who are prepared to fail in order to achieve clarity, a position i have no doubt you have been in over the years, it's the same thing just not on a football pitch......

Thanks Bob, can't argue with that. We are entering our 4th season of Cardiff City's renaissance, whereby the club has forsaken the pragmatic, results -driven philosophy that a string of managers had previously brought to the club, to be replaced by a 'this is how the game should be played' approach, with the emphasis on passing, on passing, oh, and on passing. There's a lot of talk about Vale, how they 'bullied' us, they were 'stronger', they were more direct, quicker - probably the sort of football that Bulut, Riza, Ramsey and probably BBM would refuse to adopt on the pain of death, and I have no doubt that our leaders in the UK Dalman and Choo are of the same opinion. Trouble is, Vale, who let's not forget were in League 2 last year, appeared so strong, so quick, so direct, because we were so absolutely pathetic, unable, or unwilling to compete at this low level. I'm pretty sure Vale et al could ponce around the pitch like our lot did last night, but they chose not to. We don't seem to have that option with the players we've got.
I'd call Saturday's performance a cheap Plonk emphasising on the CHEAP.
Don't you think that's a bit harsh? I didn't see Saturdays performance, and while there were people going over the top about it (no doubt) there wasn't anyone on here who implied that it was just aright, half decent, except TLG i think, who threw a couple of things in but didn't go into much detail. It was all fine and dandy at 5 oclock Saturday.
On reflection no, I don’t think Peterborough are up to much. The main positive for me was the fact we came back from a goal down, something we wouldn’t have seen last year.
I think it highlights the dross that we’ve been served up for years and how desperate we are, as a fan base, for some positivity.
I’ll try and remain as positive as possible until at least ten games into the season. I think we’ll have a much clearer understanding of where we are then, and what a successful season looks like.
Hardly fine wine to stagnant water. Rather, it was more of the same.
Yesterday's game was very similar to Saturday's, except that we managed to score two goals. The same old issues from last season were still on show in both games, and they don't look like going away, especially if we persist in fielding poor players. Our two wingers had LOTS of possession yesterday, and did nothing with it. Salech was starved of the ball, and created very little. Wintle is okay with a pacey man alongside him, but with Turnbull....well, you saw the effect at Port Vale. On the upside, the defence looks better, but come on - we're playing at League One level. Must do better.
The whole team reverted to 2024/25 type if you ask me. Chalk and Cheese from Saturday.
