Thread: Articulate managers

    Articulate managers

I for one find it refreshing that we have a manager that can actually string a few sentences together without using stock phrases like " in the f...ing building ", a results business , Riza's boxes, etc .
Were Morison , Riza , Bulut ,Hudson , McCarthy , Harris , annoying when interviewed ??
I could not stand listening to them .

    Harris was fine
McCarthy was bizarre and just wanted to be contrary
    Hudson was lost
Bulut's nonsense I can forgive as there was a language barrier - hopefully
Riza was just clueless and his nonsense was borne out of him being completely out of his depth
Morison was just a horrible arrogant pr1ck much in the shape of Russell Martin

I still think BBM is a cheap option and we'll see how articulate he is when we are being beaten

Unfortunately, BBM often speaks too fast. A combination of that and his accent can make it difficult to follow him.

A couple of days ago, my father (90 years of age, but still very sharp and his hearing is probably better than mine) asked me what I make of BBM so far. During our discussion, he admitted he often loses track of what our manager is saying during his interviews.

Riza's press conferences used to do my head in. He'd sit there scratching himself while making up words and phrases. I far prefer BBM's dealings with the media, he's said some interesting things, but he does use a lot of the stereotypical manager-speak (don't they all these days?) and he does talk a bit too fast for my liking.

I haven't really listened to any of his musings but I would be more than happy if he pronounces t's in the middle of words, the glottal stop seemingly widespread in the women's game.

I agree with most of that.

BBM has got a machine gun style of speaking that can be difficult to follow. But he doesn't feel the need to keep talking (unlike some of his predecessors) and when he has said what he wants to say, he stops. I like that.

He doesn't use cliches from the manual - but he does have his stock words, phrases and expressions which we will all get used to very soon - we might even get 'excited' by them!

So far he has struck a good balance between being careful with his words and answering the question, and also between focussing on positives whilst at the same time showing he is not satisfied. Every interview with him reinforces the culture and the standards he is trying to establish - and seems directed at journalists, fans and players alike (probably Tan and the Board too).

He's pretty good, and most of what he says is logical and makes sense. He comes across as very driven, maybe even a bit intense. I was initially concerned he might lose the players, but so far, they seem to be responding well to his methods, even though it sounds like he's pushing them a lot harder in training.

Of course, talk is cheap; we’ll judge him on results. But so far, things are looking good. We could easily have scored four or five on Saturday. Tonight should be interesting. Will Turnbull or Callum Robinson find their way into the team?

    Re: Articulate managers

I was only thinking “I’m understanding all of this” yesterday when watching the video of BBM’s press conference. Whenever I’d watched him before that, I’d been able to get the gist of what he was saying, but couldn’t understand it word for word.

Actually, listening to BBM brought back memories of a family holiday in 1969 (I know it was then because Glamorgan won the county Championship while we were away) where we went traveling around the southernmost part of Ireland in a horse drawn Romany caravan. We started off from Cork and headed south to places like Kinsale and I can remember that it became a running joke with my parents that they couldn’t understand the locals. In particular, they struggled because they tended to talk so quickly and, although I think BBM can be pretty intense, I feel a lot of that comes from him talking so quickly.

Recently my missus phoned Vodaphone and was put through to the call centre, after a while she had to stop the operative and apologise due to her failing to understand her, most probably, Indian accent. She asked to be connected to a UK call centre, being put through to Glasgow was obviously a piss take

BBM can be hard to follow. As said above. He speaks very fast with a strong accent. Still speaks better than a lot of our recent managers mind.

I think BBM’s an awful interview. He says a lot of nothing and it ends up becoming just one big long ramble. I hope he speaks with a bit more OOMPH to the players to get his message across. We need some OOMPH.

But I don’t really care if he gets us playing the exciting football he promised.

Maybe when he said,”get the ball wide and whip balls into Yousef” they heard, “get the ball wide and do absolutely **** all with it.”

BBM talks faster than a horse racing commentator. Can barely understand him.

Nigel Pearson must be a nightmare to interview. He talks and acts as though he’s about to fill the interviewer in 😁

Maybe they heard "get the ball wide and whip in balls that are useless."

So they were playing to instructions after all!

They must have been training with the Peterborough goalie during the week.
