Thread: YEAH, DEFINITELY

    YEAH, DEFINITELY

I wonder if somebody at the club could come up with some type of swear box for players and staff to contribute to whenever they say ‘Yeah, definitely’.

I just watched the Ashford and Colwill post-Swindon interviews and almost every question was met with this stock ‘yeah, definitely’ response.

It’s like being forced to listen to the track and field dimwits from Team GB.

It's used to be 'Obviously' although i like 'Yeah Definitely" it's something i may use myself in future. I find agreeing with someone, not really listening and then doing what you want to do is so much more economical.

Better than the usual 'yeah, no, definitely'.

I gets a bit irking after a while, but It's better than the Gareth Bale (and others) version which goes 'Yeah, no'.

But for anyone who remembers Stuart Taylor being interviewed (every verbal tick in the book), the Ashford and Colwill performances are pure poetry!

We all have speech patterns and have phrases to kill dead air as you think sometimes or act as social cues, especially if you're tired after a game of football.

If the interviewers knew their jobs and asked open questions then the answer couldn’t be yeah definitely.

Many of us got drawn into the 'absolutely' vortex years ago.

    "Yeah. No."
    "Listen."
    "Look."

A creative synonym for "Yeah, definitely"!

Think you have a career in media training ahead of you.

When they trip out…”Look” and “Listen” is when I turn off! They must be taught this at interview training

    I'm glad someone mentioned "Look".

It's mainly politicians who start answers saying it but it bugs me.

What are they asking us to look at?

If it's their mouths and they're moving then we know they are lying! Maybe they're trying to show off their skill at ventriloquism?

For many years, 'You know' was the stock phrase in interviews when people were not particularly erudite. Certainly in the 60,'s 70,'s and 80,'s it was used by many in interviews.

Don't think I have heard it for a long time now.

“I mean…” is another one. I interviewed a guy once for role in my team and every single answer he began with “I mean…”

I almost interjected during one answer to ask “what do you mean, you mean? You haven’t facking said anything yet”!!!

    He didn’t get the job.
