Why pick Chambers as captain?

I don’t understand why BBM has picked Chambers as team captain, when in all likelihood, he’s not going to get a lot of time on the pitch. With Fish, Lawlor and Osho, surely Chambers is fourth choice centre half, and though he can play in midfield, he’s probably fifth behind Colwill, Colwill, Wintle, and even Turnbull. So why make him captain?

I was given to understand he was chosen by the players.

Supposedly it was a team vote and him and colwill came out as 1st and 2nd!

Teams usually pick 3 captains, so the others step in when required,

It was well reported that BBM did NOT pick the team captain. That responsibility was handed to the players. Luckily under BBM, having the team captaincy does not guarantee you a place in the starting line-up.

The players intentionally chose a dud? I don't think anyone expected Chambers to struggle this badly and BBM has already shown he's not afraid to drop him

If the players like and respect him I don't really see the issue. Wasn't Darren Purse also club captain and not in the starting XI for the majority of the last few seasons he had with us?
