Thread: Lucky , lucky Cardiff?

    Lucky , lucky Cardiff?

Are we taking over the “lucky, lucky” moniker from Arsenal?

We’re undefeated and have not let in a goal from open play…but have we managed that more by luck than judgement?

These last two games this week have been prime examples in my opinion.

Long may it continue, by the way!

Being pedantic, we conceded against Swindon

I do wonder whether we are riding the crest of a lucky wave a bit at the moment

Lucky for 10 straight games feels a bit of a stretch

Maybe they're just a good team?

I think that it's somewhere in between us being a good outfit with a coach who has been ideas, and the standard in this division being dog awful, it truly is poor.

I just hope that while we’re riding this lucky wave that the players are also improving as a team. The whole squad should now be getting used to BBM’s ideas and ways of playing.
Let’s hope we stay lucky until the end of the season.

We have already been unlucky with some injuries that are long term but not sure we are more or less unlucky with other sides

And yes the standard is not great in this division based on the games I have seen so far

I think there is a big difference in the quality of finishing. We’ve offered up quite a few good chances in recent games whereas in the Championship it would result in a goal say 75% of the time and possibly 90% of the time in the Premier league but you get away with it in league 1.

We are a good team at this level and then you have that intimidation factor like Stockport on Saturday retreating to their own box for the last 10 minutes which afforded us that one opportunity to score.

Liverpool score a lot of very late goals in the Premier league for that reason too

What looks like luck is usually just persistence paying off.

The harder I work, the luckier I get.

The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.

Apparently, with pre-season, fifteen games unbeaten.

I’m no great believer in stats in football but I wonder what our xG is vs expected xG over these games and equally xG conceded vs expected xG conceded.

This website has us 7th for xG and the best for xG conceded so far this season. Worth considering most other teams have played a game more: https://theanalyst.com/competition/e...ague-one/stats

We're 5th for xG per 90 and still the best for xG conceded per 90. No idea how useful any of these things are though

We've been fortunate, but we've also taken our chances and have an excellent goal keeper. We've also got the best goal difference across all four divisions.

Don't disagree with the sentiments of that but I suppose the question then is ( and the same for any other side with aspirations for progression) is how well would we adapt with this side if we went up and what additions would we need to meet the gap - part of that for us is how much more growth there is in our youngsters as we know what the likes of Robinson and NG can do at championship

For me lucky or not I am just enjoying my football more this season that in the last few years where I went through habit and not want but now I am looking forward to match day - if our luck doesn't last beyond Saturday then so be it but if we see the same level of application and way of playing I suspect we will get luckier more often than not - well that's my hope anyway 👍
