We have been in Sardinia for the last 12 days. I was surprised by the number of Palestinian flags, solidarity posters, graffiti and local demonstrations we saw from big towns to small villages.
The Italian government of Meloni is populist right (sons of Mussolini) but have not slavishly followed the Trump playbook on climate or Gaza despite cozying up to King Don. For the EU to make a serious break with Israel and bring in proper sanctions either Germany or italy will have to make a major policy change. It won’t be Germany. Maybe Italy? The government played down the Palestine demonstrations and strikes today - but the pressure is growing, as it was on Starmer.

It will be interesting to see how the US will try to intervene in the event UEFA do the right thing.
Spain leading the way again on confronting Netanyahu’s rogue state.

Eurovision Song Contest may be following suit (UEFA that is - not Spain)

The USA and Israel want Tony Blair to ‘run’ Gaza!
Interesting opinion piece on the amount of money (mainly US dollars) going into re-writing history and spraying propaganda perfume over the genocide in Gaza - but with the added reveal that there is a thing called Sludge News!

I know it’s not really an appropriate thing to say under the circumstances, but I can’t keep a straight face reading the BBC’s headline. Those two men summed up in a sentence.

Oh please
The 20 point plan
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c70155nked7o
While giving his backing to the plan in a press conference, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also reinstated his opposition to a Palestinian state - saying "it's not written in the agreement"
A 'peace plan' for Palestine designed without any involvement by Palestinians.
Trump has maybe boxed Netanyahu in a bit - but Netanyahu also bounced Trump into unscripted support for continuing the destruction of Gaza if Hamas do not give full support to the 'plan' - the ultimatum.
The references to a future Palestinian state are vague, cynical and decorative. Two states on the 1967 borders means the dismantling of illegal settlements on the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the expulsion of 700,000 hard-core Zionists. There is no recognition of that requirement in the 'plan'.
There will be no role in government for any Palestinians - just continued occupation by Israel or Israeli proxies - but with some woolly hints about a reformed Palestinian Authority sometime in the future. The PA needs to be replaced, but the decision on what with has to come from the Palestinian people - not Trump, Netanyahu or Blair!
Netanyahu already unpicking the Trump 'peace plan'.
That Nobel Peace Prize is slipping away again!
Ricky Hale (Council Estate Media):
The Labour Party has passed a motion at its annual conference, stating that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The motion submitted by UNISON accepts the findings of genocide by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry. It makes the following demands:
- the government “employ all means reasonably available to prevent the commission of genocide in Gaza”
- full arms embargo
- freeze UK-Israel trade/partnership agreement
- sanctions to enforce international law
- ban UK involvement in “aiding and assisting the genocide”
While the motion is not binding on Starmer, it means the official position of the Labour Party is in direct contradiction to the Labour government.
Starmer is not just in disagreement with the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, and pretty much every human rights group and genocide scholar, he is in disagreement with his own party.
Farcical isn’t a strong enough word.
Balls in Hamas court then..
