    You make your own luck.

Me and some mates like a game of poker every month. One of them has gained a bit of a reputation for being luckier than the rest of us. Its not that he has any more luck than the rest of us, it's because he puts himself in a position to appear to get more luck.
He's a good player but knows how to make the best of a good opportunity when it arises. The same I think applies to us at the moment.

I reckon bad luck outweighs good luck during my 63 years following the City…………I s’pose the majority of fans reckon that about their clubs though but the turnaround this season is something I feel us lot deserve.

    Exactly.
    No such thing as luck.

Some years ago, there was an experiment in a yank uni.
They asked students whether they felt they were generally lucky or unlucky, and split them into groups.
\they gave each student an identical task - to count the pictures in a newspaper.

However, one page was printed, in very large letters, with "show this page to the examiner and claim ten dollars" or something like that - but no picture.

Almost all the "lucky" ones claimed the money, almost all the "unlucky" ones didn't.

We have a talented group of players, a talented coach/manager and they are all working as hard as they can.

To suggest the outcomes of our games are down to‘ being lucky’ is an insult to the quality and the effort those guys are putting in every day!!

Lucky we have a solid keeper

    Re: Lucky , lucky Cardiff?

I think we have a defined way of playing, which the players seem to have the ability to put into practice, defending as a unit, getting more bodies into the box, working hard from back to front. For so many seasons we’ve not been able to string more than a few passes together, I was astonished to hear ole’s ringing out at the Plymouth game. Regarding the Port Vale disallowed goal, Trott never made a real attempt to save the shot as the flag had gone up,so I think that’s a bit misleading to point to us being lucky there.

BBM, might or might not be the best thing since sliced bread, only time will tell, but as it stands, like a lot of us we were going over the last few years out of habit, more than anything else
Staying in the pub before for longer, leaving early to get back for a pint etc
The football was shite, and with the way we were being run it’s not hard to see why we finished bottom of the league
No direction, no idea how to change things for the better, no fight or belief from the players in the system, the tactics etc, and to me it looked like they had just given up.

BBM arrived, ditched whatever plan, if there ever was one? and has gone about it in a totally different way, he might well want to add to the squad or move players on, but as it stands he’s ideas and system are working a treat.

All our chat is about the players, who’s impressing the most and generally a genuine excitement about the next game
Will he get it right all the time? I doubt it
Will the players look like they are giving a 100%, most definitely

Is it luck that we’re top of the table, probably not
Is it luck that such a shite defence has turned into the best defence in this league, again probably not

Whether by accident or design the only bit of luck that has happened is that the board has actually got the appointment of head coach right after so many failed attempts

Lots can happen in football to derail your season, but if we don’t get promoted this season, I don’t think it’ll be because of a lack of effort

BBM has generated an enthusiasm that we have been lacking for years, in the squad and the fans and long May it continue

If he carries on like this we’ll be lucky to keep hold of him

He’s made a huge impact in every department. Not only is he the best shot-stopper we’ve had since Marshall, but he’s also miles ahead defensively. As a converted left-back, he effectively gives us an extra outfield player behind the back four, and thats allowing us to play it out from the back with comparative ease.

I think we're a good side and the young players are going to benefit from this season, hopefully be ready for the championship next season.

Be interesting to see how we fare against Burnley.

I didn't know he started as an outfield player but it makes sense. I reckon he could end up playing at a much higher level.

It amazes me how precious people get about suggestions like this.

Of course City have been lucky so far this season! Anyone who has watched any number of the games knows that (or should do). But that doesn't mean the team isn't worthy of its position at the top of the table. So far, it definitely is.

    Re: Lucky , lucky Cardiff?

I think we have been out muscled in our away games so far. Teams in this league will be well up for games against us, especially as we are currently at the top. We need to learn how to cope with the physicality of these teams who may not be as technical’ as ourselves.

As Gary Player once said, the more I practice, the luckier I get.

Napoleon was a skilled tactician who achieved many successes through merit, while also benefiting from opportunities created by circumstance. He is widely quoted as asking, "I know he's a good general but is he lucky ?”

As others have noted sometimes the margins can be very thin.

Other teams finishing has been crap, that's not luck, it's on the opposition, we still allowed the opportunity. This thread is gold though, we've had American universities carrying out social experiments, Gary Player and Napoleon Bonaparte (Although it didn't work out that well for him in the end, Basically exiled on a volcanic island and dead at 51. I was hoping that someone would mention Del Boy.

If we ever had any luck, it ran out on Saturday! But just like when we were winning, it wasn’t down to luck, it was because we took our chances.

Saturday was the opposite: poor finishing and not putting them away. The only real bad luck was having to put up with that useless referee!

Prawny will be giving you grief as soon as he gets back from his latest counselling session...

I thought City were a bit unlucky against Bradford. The visitors were the better side and deserved to win, but there were a couple of instances where the ball deflected to Bradford's advantage during City attacks. The opposite was true against Plymouth - the deflections went our way. Fine margins, although both of those games almost certainly ended up with the right results.

nah. we don't get to blame the ref every match just because the team had a shit day and couldn't get a goal. It's down to them and the manager to deliver better.
