Thread: The Packet (Pub)

    The Packet (Pub)

Always wanted to go in there and visited last night. What a cracking traditional Cardiff boozer, not sure I would have ventured in there 30 years ago, but a lovely pub, with the best pint of SA I've ever had. That along with 'The Old Arcade', are two sort of traditional pubs, what others are there in our fine city and surroundings ?

Along with the Baltimore and Bute Dock, I used to go in the Packet when I worked down the bay 25 years ago. Great that it's still around as not many others are unfortunately.

If you weren’t a local the walk home could be a tad dodgy to say the least

Many, many years ago there would have been over 50 pubs in the Docks - 22 on Bute Street alone. I didn't venture too far into Dockland but one of the pubs I did frequent was the Quebec where they played a lot of jazz. Also recall a large black lady who was allegedly an African princess, being resident there.

I used to love an afternoon/evening drink in the Bute Dock on a Sunday, if I was on the Monday afternoon shift the following day.
This was at a time when pubs closed at 2pm on a Sunday. Felt safe-as-houses, especially compared to some of the estate pubs in the city.

Such a shame that street, the pubs and loudon square was demolished. Imagine old pubs there now with the same music as years gone by. Instead they replaced most of it with the really bad houses, tower blocks and no pubs at all.

Sunday afternnon in the Baltimore was a great time, I used to love it. Getting a taxi later a little more difficult as drivers wouldn't stop to pick us up. I can't imagine why.
The Ship and Pilot could be fun too.
