Let me throw in an interesting fact instead:
Did you know that Cornwall rises and falls 10 to 15 cm twice every day i.e. with each tide?
It wasn't realised until the introduction of GPS - and considering that all land elevations in the British mainland have been tied to Mean Sea Level at Newllyn for over a century it came as a great surprise to many people.
