Thread: Norway

    Norway

Hadn't realised they were doing so well, topped their group comfortably whilst beating Italy home and away.

Obviously have Haaland, but looking through their squad is almost full of top European league players.

    Population of 5.6 million.

    Good on them.

Could go far in the world cup, particularly when you have someone like Haaland to dig you out if struggling.

    Re: Norway

It’s the first time in 25 years they have reached the finals of any competition. They were due a turn and have a couple of generational talents in their squad right now. Haaland’s record in recent internationals is phenomenal.

    Re: Norway

Played 8, won 8, goals scored 37, 16 of them by Haaland. Very impressive.

Meanwhile, Wales have Mark Harris up front…

If we qualify for the home Euros in 2028 I dread to think who'll be leading the line for us.

A lot can happen in football in 3 years…

I’m not holding out much hope, but maybe there’s some 15 year old Haaland-esque genetic freak just hitting a growth spurt in Abergavenny

How much effort did England make to get Haaland? They'd have been pretty formidable with him up front.

They would still have played Kane upfront on his own

    P 8, W 8, D 0, L 0, GF 22, GA 0

    They're pretty formidable without him.

It's a shame that so many quality players just won't get much of a look in for them. Plenty that would walk into the starting 11's for lots of top 50 nations, an embarrassment of riches.

It will be Mark Harris if Bellers is still in charge!

Yes, they are a tough game for the lesser nations.

    As we discovered recently.

They've been a particularly tough game for lesser nations for about 25 years. Nothing we haven't known for decades.

Indeed. And ‘lesser nations’ is the large majority in this case.

    Re: Norway

I believe Norway were ranked below Wales at the beginning of the qualifying campaign.

I hope Norway do well in the World Cup, although Belgium have had an abundance of talent in their “golden era”, and achieved diddly squat. At least we made the semi finals of the Euros with our best squad for yrs.

With any luck Biancheri or Morgan will be playing first team football by then

The term Flat track bully fits England perfectly. They’ll more often than not beat teams they should, but bottle it in the big games.

    Re: Norway

Wouldn't be surprised to see Norway do something similar to Bulgaria or Sweden in 1994. They could go a very long way

I think that's a bit overstated these days.
England are a very good side and have an incredible conveyor belt of young talent coming through as well.

there are a handful of other teams on a similar level, and they play a knockout tournament every 2 years - they've not won anything but they quite easily could have

But they haven’t. They’ve bottled it.
