That's a very childish way of looking at running a country, surely it depends what you are spending it on.

I think he did end boom and bust because for the last 13 years we haven't seen any of the boom bit.

Saying 'a requirement for deeper austerity' implies it worked. It didn't, we never reached the surplus that they kept forecasting because growth was shite and so the debt pile just increased.
