Club record up for grabs tomorrow

TLG has pointed out that the club has never lost 8 league games on the trot before. That applies to all games - we've never, ever been beaten 8 times on the trot. Enter stage left, Neil Warnock....

Looking at another stat, we've lost 9 out of the last 10. This has only happened twice in our history.

First of all during the later stages of Graham Williams' management of us in 1982. When Len Ashurst took over and we lost in his first game in charge at Bolton, we had lost 10 of the previous 11 games. Ashurst's side then lost 1-0 at Palace and created a new club record of 11 defeats out of 12.

Enter Alan Durban. His side managed 12 defeats in 13 games in Division Four in 1985/86. Having won 3 of the opening 4 games of the season, his side would win 1 and draw 2 of the next 18 games, sending us to the bottom of Division Three. The club rallied, winning 4 and drawing 4 of the next 8 games. 12 defeats in the next 17 games in all competitions saw normal service resumed and, despite 2 wins in our last 3 games, we were relegated to the bottom division for the first time.

Never before has a Cardiff City side having lost 9 out of 10 avoided defeat in the 11th game.

Are there any seasons in which we’ve had such a bad run and NOT been relegated ( gimmie some hope Eric! )

Must be close to some record about the fewest goals scored as well and certainly in a first half.

Yes. Twice in the 1920s we lost 6 on the trot and weren't relegated. In fact we finished 4th and 9th in the old first division. It should be pointed out that those 6 defeats were to only 3 teams in the days where you generally played teams back to back.

I imagine our lack of first half goals must already be a club record. There's probably no way of being able to find out.

If we don't score in the next couple of games we'll be in with a chance to have a crack of breaking that record.

In 1952/53, the club went on an extraordinary run of 0 goals in 8 league games in the old First Division. The scores were:

    0-0 v Wolves (H)
    0-3 v Newcastle (A)
    0-0 v Newcastle (H)
    0-2 v Sheffield Weds (A)
    0-0 v Tottenham (H)
    0-0 v Burnley (A)
    0-2 v Preston (H)
    0-0 v Stoke (A)

The result that ended that run? It was Cardiff City 6 Manchester City 0!

I always look back upon 1980-1983 as the salad days of my City support. I'd forgotten completely that we were so shit in 1982.

Mighty Mick the record breaker !!
    Losses 8 in a row
5 Losses in a row at home
no goals scored in 1st half …now 15 games including Wycombe end of last season ..that must be a record
that Morrison goal at Blackburn saving him equal 8 games in a row without scoring

Got to go but let’s not just panic and employ someone like Pulis or Big Sam …..with so many youngsters in the squad , they need to make the right appointment else we will go down
