    My insurance policy says I'm insured to drive any car.

    Deffo speak to your insurance company (provided you are currently insured to drive another car). If not then you need to apply for insurance for you mums car. I don't think you need to be the registered owner, the application asks that when applying.

    Most insurance policies allow that. However, if you drive a car which is not yours most policies only give third party cover when you drive a car that isn't your own.
