    A few derby stats

There has been a clean sheet in the last 8 derbies. The previous record was 6 derbies with one clean sheet in each. The last time a derby saw both sides score, Chopra scored a last-gasp winner.

Never before have Cardiff City gone into a derby having lost 5 successive games. On 5 occasions have we gone into a derby having lost 3 or 4 on the trot. Our record from those occasions is 2 wins, a draw and 2 defeats.

Swansea City hold the upper hand in the first league derby of the season. In 30 seasons, they’ve won the first derby 13 times, we’ve won it 8 times and there have been 9 draws.

The first derby of the season has been played in Swansea on 11 occasions. Of those 11 games, they’ve won 8 and drawn 2. Our only ever league win at Swansea when it was the first derby of the season was thanks to Lee Barnard on Boxing Day 1989.

We have failed to score in 8 out of 30 trips to Swansea in the league, however, we’ve failed to score in 10 out of 30 home league games against Swansea. We’ve never had a goalless draw at Swansea in the league, yet there have been 5 at home.

Our record in the league at Swansea when we’ve scored one goal is W5 D4 L5. Our record there when we’ve scored 2 or more is W1 D3 L4 – 15 April 1959 stands as the only time we’ve scored 2 or more in a league game at Swansea and won. We would score 3 there the following season only to draw.

Frankie Burrows has managed us most often in derby meetings within the English pyramid, though with a win percentage of 25% has one of the poorer records. Only Malky Mackay and (so far) Mick McCarthy (must be something about the initials, maybe we need to get Mike Morris to manage on Sunday) have 100% win records against Swansea, albeit from 1 game played. The best win percentage for a Cardiff manager having managed more than 1 derby is Len Ashurst, who won 2 of the 3 derbies he managed.

In the last derby match we held the lead for 82 minutes. That is almost double the time we held the lead in total against Swansea in 11 derby games from 2008.

Since 2008 we have scored the first goal of the derby on 3 occasions, Swansea 10. We’ve been in the lead 5 times, Swansea 12. During this time Swansea have only ever equalised against us once.
