Thread: Eluned Morgan , Next Labour Leader In Wales , I hope

Eluned Morgan , Next Labour Leader In Wales , I hope

looks likely that Labour will form a coalition government with plaid which is better than the tories sniffing around in my view .

However Drakeford needs to sling his hook pronto and hopefully eluned Morgan will get the script

Old man was an Ely community leader , she's highly articulate and has got to be better than the current first minister

I thought Carwyn Jones was a shoe in for a long run in the job but clearly he messed up big time with the carl sergeant controversy

Labour are lucky that Arty Davies is the leader of the Tories.

Why doesn't he stand down now and let the new leader stand in the elections.

Why should Mark Drakeford sling his hook? Think he's had a decent pandemic. Just what was needed. Slow and steady.
Just been speaking to some English people who can pick up Wales TV and they are impressed with him. Better than BJ.

The reason he should go is that he has already said that he is leaving after the election so people are in a position where they don't actually know what they are voting for. That's all.
Nothing to do with the past, it's about the future. Let the new leader show us his vision for Wales tomorrow.

As long as the first minister is Adam Price I couldn’t care who is the labour leader, he’s the best leader of the 3 by a country mile.

Well there is no chance of that as the tories will probably win more seats in front of plaid

He's got no chance of leading Wales into the future . He's done his best , he needs to stand down . He's toxic to many . Is that fair ? It doesn't matter in the world of politics

Drakeford has already said he isn't completing the term hasn't he?

Not particularly true, if Plaid form the coalition with Labour then there's a chance that the First Ministership will be shared with Drakeford standing down

Realistically there's no chance of RT Davies becoming First Minister, the Tories won't get enough seats to govern by themselves and there are very few possible coalition partners, none of which are likely to get the required amount of seats

Plaid would need to win a high number of seats to bargain for a split leadership , that's not going to happen

The best they can hope for is a junior coalition place and implementation of some of their socialist policies , which is fine by me

If Labour had a decent leader they would , even with bad times going on , win the election outright

As it is drakeford is seen as out of touch and old school by many and unbelievably the tories will win seats , but not enough

Who are the 'Many' that see Drakeford as 'Out Of Touch' and 'Old School' I'm not saying that people don't feel that way, But who are the 'Many' You must speak to thousands of people.

There's more of a chance of that than there is of a Tory FM. I didn't say it was definitely going to happen, only that there's a chance

YouGov, who regularly poll Wales, have it down as 26 Labour seats and 17 for Plaid. That's a very solid position for Plaid to bargain from considering there's no other obvious coalition partner for Labour, with Drakeford stepping down, a split Ministership just makes sense. Not saying that's definitely how it'll play out, but a Plaid in the high teens is hardly unthinkable

Labour have never won an overall majority at a Senedd election. They've had popular leaders and unpopular leaders in that time and never managed more than 30 seats, I don't see why this would change if, say, Eluned Morgan was in charge right now

Like I said, I don't think the split FM thing will definitely happen, but its definitely more likely than RT Davies as First Minister

You just have to browse social media , you will see that is the impression , even among Labour voters

Even on here he's been called duckford , dickford

He's no leader , might be a nice bloke but he's no leader like Carwyn Jones was

You can gauge peoples opinions on the Internet and multi media far quicker than talking to people in the street

its because the left of centre alternative to the tories in Wales, as in England, is piss weak

Even in Wales, there are people that are tories

I would shoot them if that were legal but sadly it isn't

she would be head and shoulders the best leader Welsh Labour has had

There is a chance but the maths need to add up

And I don't think that will happen

No , there is a huge swathe of information and opinions out there and generally it gives a fairly good idea of whats afoot

Why do you think door to door canvassing is becoming a thing of the past ?

Wales online is crap and takes ages to load but flick through that from time to time and you will understand that although he's done his best and had to fight off continual attacks , he's put his foot in it too many times and even among Labour voters he's not very popular

Its just the way it is

Plaid wont win the required seats this election but I expect within the next 3 elections they could well do in areas that are considered Labour heartlands.

More youngsters are indy curious or support the idea.

Why they're interested in politics instead of doing drugs and shagging, I have no idea.

I think there's an opportunity for a Welsh version of the SNP to do well here. The seeds are being sown. Some of the problems that have held Plaid back are being eroded. Still think that too many in Wales hold too much of an allegience to Britain, not Wales, but that's their choice. We're not as patriotic as the Scots.

My niece is 21. She seemed energised by Corbyn. Although Welsh Labour are more traditional ‘Labour’ than Starmer, I think some of the newish voters don’t differentiate between them or have had a ****full of Westminster?

I’ve always been Labour but my vote is going Plaid. My issue with leaving the Union was always I wouldn’t want to make those already struggling worse off. With Boris & co leeching the country and no credible opposition in Starmer, I don’t see how an independent Wales could be? I know some will throw in economical statistics but let’s be blunt here the Tory led UK government is living on the never - never with squillions of pounds of debt. Wales might as well do that?
