Film 2021 - Did We Have One Of These Threads? Can't Find It, So.....

I can only find the Film 2020 thread but not a 2021 one so thought I'd kick it off.

Had a week off and managed to catch up with a couple of films i'd wanted to watch for a bit but never seemed to get chance.

One I had been really looking forward to was Kajillionaire - the trailer looked really entertaining - https://www.imdb.com/video/vi3764567...f_=tt_pr_ov_vi - but just never got into it at all.

Another one I liked the look of was Peanut Butter Falcon which was even better than I expected - https://www.imdb.com/video/vi3679239...f_=tt_pr_ov_vi

But I have been really surprised by two films from Denmark - the first being Enforcement, or Shorta - a very good and suspenseful film about two cops trying to get out of a ghetto - https://www.imdb.com/video/vi3662201...&ref_=tt_ov_vi - very watchable.

My film of the year so far though has to be Riders Of Justice, or Retfærdighedens ryttere to be precise - https://www.imdb.com/video/vi7419169...f_=tt_pr_ov_vi - equally dark and pretty gruesome and also a great story with a good twist but hilarious in places. Thought this was a great film - my kind of darkhumour.

Ok - some of these aren't from 2021 but only seem to have become available in 2021.

Sadly due to cinemas not being open a lot of films have been pushed back and so there hasn't really been much to watch recently.

Recently watched Palm Springs on Amazon Prime,

Modern day take on groundhog day, starring Adam Samburg.

I really enjoyed it, easy watch with good humor, granted it will not be to everyone's taste.

If you are a fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and that style he carries a lot of it into this movie.

Ma Raineys Black Bottom and The Trial of the Chicago Seven are probably the best 2 films I've seen recently.
Tried to watch Mank but couldnt get on with it. Might give it another go though.

Watched the Netflix short film Two Distant Strangers last night. Based upon the George Floyd/ police racism. Only 32 minutes long but it was pretty good.

Peanut Butter Falcon was enjoyable. If you liked that take a look at Captain Fantastic.

Another short film that's also on Netflix is the present, which I thought was very good. Directed by Farah Nabulsi and set in the west bank.

Enjoyed The Mauritainian on Amazon Prime last night. Really shows that the dodgiest country of all is the USA.

I tried watching it. I couldn't get past SBC as Abbie Hoffman. I think I lasted about 15 minutes.

I watched Mank. I thought it was very good. Very stylishly done with a fantastic soundtrack. Many nods to the sets and lighting of Citizen Kane and the music of Bernard Herrmann.

That’s a shame because it’s a good film. The irony being as we were watching it last night news was breaking about the passing of Ramsey Clark who came across as one of the good guys.

Oldish film but Cuba And The Cameraman on Netflix.

Filmed over 45 years, he visits the same families and gets quite close to Fidel, even gets on the plane with him when he visits the US.

I watched "Nobody" last night. Not exactly classic cinema and owes a debt to John Wick, but it was very well done and highly entertaining.
