Thread: Quiz question

    Quiz question

Following on from a different thread about teams we haven't yet played that are in the league, here's today's quickie:

Of the 84 league teams that we have played in the English pyramid, which 5 clubs did we last play the longest time ago? The two sides that we last played the longest time ago we played back in the 1980s. Exeter City are 6th in the list, we played them last on 12 November 2002, so there are five sides that we played before then that we haven't faced since and will be in the league at the start of next season. Welsh cup matches not included.

I was randomly looking at figures v Darlington earlier, and i was surprised that we haven't played them since 2001.
They were a regular fixture in the 90s

    Re: Quiz question

I seen us play at Rochdale but can’t remember exact year. It might have been late 90’s. So that could include them.

    Re: Quiz question

Thanks for this Eric. It’s given me and Al 90 mins of nostalgia as we have been out walking.

It’s prompted a follow up Question

Three teams lost their League status in the 70’s. We had never until then / and have never since played League football against any of them

    They went out 1972, 1977 and 1978

Who are the three teams. And which three teams replaced them?

Cambridge replaced Bradford Park Avenue, then it might been Oxford replacing Accrington Stanley and, a complete guess, Peterborough came in for Gateshead?
