That cannot be right. As a pharmacist (now retired) I would have immediately referred such a patient to the GP even after just 3 - 4 days of diarrhoea. Imodium is ok for short term treatment (I think 10 days max) but over a long period I would be worried about side effects. The critical thing is dehydration and loss of salts. Has she tried Dioralyte? However this is also just for short term use.
The weight loss is a worry. You really must push the GP into getting her a referral to see a specialist asap.
Forgot to add - does she pass blood? Probably not easy to see anyway. The GP ought to be able to arrange for a test. Not pleasant getting a sample though unfortunately!
