Carrie Fisher was Bipolar and seriously ill for long periods of her career. She was hospitalised during psychotic episodes. By all accounts she was loved by her peers and greatly admired. I remember Stephen Fry interviewing her during a two-part documentary he did on Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression).
