I was at that game! I loved going up to Hereford as well. A fairly easy trip, and always a raucous crowd. They also had a microwave in the food stall, so the pasties were hot, and they also sold Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Great stuff.

My first "proper" match was at Hereford in 1969 in the "old" Southern League.
It was a once a year family day out for us but on this occasion instead of getting dragged around the cathedral and market (one of them must have been closed for some reason) we all went to the match.
John Charles was player manager back then and scored a fantastic header from a corner.
was my first away, mid 70's about 20 on our coach and they ran in terror. I was 13
I still get to Edgar Street now and again (been a couple of times this season). The ground is still OK tbh, although one of the terraces behind the goals is unused and looks a bit dilapidated. Good set of fans who get behind their team, although the ground is a bit too big for them at present. Went to a game last season where a group of their fans burst into the Welsh National Anthem mid-game!
Paul phucking Wheeler.
89, 90 or 91? I was buckled.
Sunday afternoon kick off (I think)? Five of us in a Ford Escort. All severely under the influence apart from the designated driver who opted to only smoke weed. I was a state from the previous night and the whole day felt a bit like a hallucination. Had no moither in Hereford but when stopping in Abergavenny on the way home got into a row with a Hereford fan in a pub who must’ve been nearly 50 and took exception to our uncouth language. My mate calling him a “cuunt” might’ve topped it.
Had to leave my pint of Labatts in the pub.
Funny place Hereford. I can imagine they would get their hands on their arses with loads of Taffs acting like proper wannabe Silurian warrior plums on their patch.
Never had any issues at the matches themselves but used to knock around with a girl from outside Hereford and went into ‘town’ with her on the weekend a few times. It must be all the country air or cider but there’s some right headers looking for it with anyone?
Thankfully for me, it was pre the Partridge episode involving Peter Baxendale Thomas. If I’d seen that, I’d have repeated it over and over and undoubtedly got myself hospitalised
feb 76 both going for promotion the hammered us 4-1 a wall collapsed in the away end. bumped into the late Mair Daniels after the game she laid into me because i didnt show for the bus and she'd held it Ponty, (went with mates in a car)
both went up that season with Millwall i think
happy days
great season Evans/Alston on fire
Loved the fighting cider they served up
My first visit was April '77. Think we drew 2-2 and Robin Friday got sent off. Anyone else remember going to this game?
Hello all. Long time browser. Saw this thread as I was reading the post mortem on your game on Tuesday, which I had the misfortune to attend; though West Brom played some good stuff to be fair. So I registered.
Anyway, as a Hereford fan living in Cardiff (since 1982) I was at the game mentioned and all our other clashes in the 80s and 90s. Some great games, we had a habit of winning at Ninian, some scary moments too, being an away fan on the Grange and having to walk back to town after the game.
I remember Steve White scoring for us the last time you were anywhere near the top of the old fourth division?
I think us winning kept you out of the play offs ? 20 plus years ago ?
At least 2000 Hereford fans there that day , best following I have seen down here
Real shame what's happened to your club
I hope you come back mate
The big away following was 1996. We made the play offs despite losing that game. Lost in the play offs, you took Steve White off us (we were a financial basket case). 6 months later White scored both goals in your 2-0 win. We got relegated.
We might get back one day, for now it would be nice to not have every away game hundreds of miles away oop north, but I'd rather get that by promotion to conf national that relegation back to the southern league.
Off to Merstham (no, I hadn't heard of it either) tomorrow in the Cup. It's near Redhill and doable on the train from Cardiff. Happy days, hopefully! Good luck against the world's dullest team, Reading.
