Forgot to mention Thin Lizzy. I was really looking forward to seeing Eric Bell on guitar but he missed the gig. The replacement wasn't bad though......a young lad called Gary Moore !

Others I can recall playing there were Led Zepelin and the not so great Slade, Swinging Blue Jeans and worst of all Hawkwind. Also many local groups including a band fronted by Dave Edmunds.

A mate of mine went to the Hawkwind gig and apparently there were a couple having it off on the dancefloor during the performance !

The Cory Hall, Cardiff (opposite Queen Street Station) ... early 1970's ... a much smaller version of the Royal Albert Hall:

At this really intimate venue I had the privilege of seeing Sandy Denny & Friends. A wonderful venue and concert.

Capitol Theatre, Cardiff (where Capitol Shopping Mall is) ... Oct 1971 ... biggest theatre/cinema in Europe at the time.

My first visit was seeing King Crimson on their Islands' tour. This vast cavernous venue was packed; excellent light show by Peter Sinfield and fantastic concert.

It wasn't me. I saw Hawkwind twice at the Top Rank - the second time by accident. They were truly awful. The lead guitarist only seemed able to play chords and a few amateurish riffs which a novice guitarist could play with ease. Definitely the worst band I have ever seen and I've seen a lot.

The Capitol and Colston Hall were the main large 'local' venues that attracted the very best artists when I started going to concerts in the early 70's. Not very intimate venues and the sound in Colston Hall could vary from great to not so good but still gave me some great memories.

Not actually a big fan of the coal exchange, I think the tram shed is a far superior venue.

Others that I thought were good was the Shepherd's bush empire and the whiskey a gogo

Ronnie scotts if you're into that sort of thng

Yep. Ronnie Scotts is a nice atmosphere even though I didn't appreciate the music. I semi lived in a hotel around the corner from Ronnie Scotts so it was somewhere to go in the evening.

Definitely agree with you that the Tramshed is a better venue than the Coal Exchange. Although I only saw one gig (Alvin Lee) at the Coal Exchange, I didn't get a good vibe there at all.

Tramshed too small , if it fitted 2000 it would be perfect but at 800 its just not big enough

You surprise me. I thought the presence of Stacia at a Hawkwind gig would be enough to make you their biggest fan.
