Ahh, doesn't matter, he'll get 100 grand from Paddy Power to do an advert semi mocking himself, and we can all laugh. Everyone wins.

What might be considered an unsophisticated sense of humour. That's all. A non-story.

    Yes.

BBC making a non story about a German joke when one of the most memorable scenes in arguably their best sitcom had some proper German banter is the real joke.

Poor Harry will be labelled far right soon.

It was amusing then and still can be today for many. Though maybe people back then off the back of real hardship were generally just less offended all the time. Good on them.

To be fair I really doubt Tuchel gives a ****. It's clearly a joke.

We’ve never been at war with Germany in Redknapp’s lifetime and he’s 78

I bet he watched Dad's Army and Faulty Towers though.

BTW, I agree with you that all comedy should be banned.

Just Gavin and Stacey would do.

First team meeting, you can imagine, Harry Kane saying “don’t tell him your name Jude”

Dads Army was so good because the humour was directed at us as much as the Germans and it still succeeds today (unlike some aspects of Fawlty Towers). If you think anything Ive said in this thread is advocating that all comedy should be banned, then youre even further past saving than I thought you were.

My apologies, didn't realise you had to have first hand experience of something for a joke to be viable.

    Re: Lovable old Harry.

Counts as an edgy joke nowadays, and in poor taste and some will be offended, but so be it.

We all get offended by some jokes sometimes, don't we.

Viable? It’s barely a joke these days. Would any one under the age of sixty find it funny?

I think the humour in Fawlty Towers was 100% directed at Basil and his ridiculous behaviour. Brilliant, clever programme.

I dont see the point of these kind of threads.
You either think something is funny or mildly funny or you dont. End of.
Nobody should be telling others what they should be laughing it and what they shouldnt

It would be fair to say a talk with harry redknapp would likely draw an older audience.

There are plenty of things that are amusing that one shouldn't really say publicly. I don't many will actually be offended by HR's "joke". It's just in poor taste. It doesn't affect me in the slightest. It just makes Harry look like a plank.

What's the point of any thread on this forum?

More to the point, I just don't see why some think laughing at the Germans is relevant any more. A few years ago Japan beat Ireland in the rugby world cup and my next door neighbour was furious. His wife thought such an upset was great but he wasn't amused, citing how the Japs were bastards during the war. He's now about 60 so never lived through it. Very strange attitude to have.

Do we still take the piss out of the South Africans over the Boer war? I suspect attitudes to the war are different for England though.
