Thread: What's the hold-up?

  1. #1

    What's the hold-up?

We were told the ball was in Tan's court last weekend so why the delay?

    1. He has many businesses to oversee and decisions to make. An appointment will be made in due course
    2. Not just appointing a manager but whole new set-up
    3. Tan likes watching Dalman go to fans meetings and make excuses LOL
    4. Appointing managers gets a bit boring after a while
    5. Ian Rush
    6. Wants to make an appointment but can't remember if it's Brian Barry-Murphy or Barry Brian-Murphy
    7. Was going to but really wants to deal with the petition first

    9. They will get back to applicants when club officials return to work next week. The 3 amigos are currently on a lads holiday cruising the islands of Greece on Tans yacht "Be Lucky"

    10. Forgot the password to the PC in the office, trying to get hold of Tan to find out what his first pet's name was

    11. They forgot to advertise internally so he’s going to wait and see what talent they can uncover already at the club first

Maybe he's made an offer to someone but, after looking at the T&Cs, they've turned it down.
    Now onto the reserve candidate..

    12. Dalman and Choo are arguing over which one of them is taking the "Director of Football" title and who gets "Sporting Director"

I know this sounds dull but what exactly is a 'Deirector of Football' and 'Sporting Director?'

That's what Vinny is trying to work out too. I think the exact remit changes from club to club, some have both, most have at least one. But essentially someone "more permanent" overseeing the football side of things to give it a strategic direction, rather than letting each manager rip things up and start again.

The role involves spending one day a week working at a club in Britain, one day at a club in Belgium and the other three days managing a car dealership in London. At least that's what the role profile on the city website says

The successful candidate might be under contract until next week. Wouldn't be proper to announce before then in that case.

Contracts generally run until 30th June, so can't see that being relevant (especially if the club are just changing Darren Purse's job title and description 😛)

I do wonder whether our inability to get a manager ever is down to nobody fancying it

They had 100 applicants and shortlisted 6 according to WOL. I really think it's another Bulut scenario - either the club's waiting on someone who's probably had other interviews/offers, or they're haggling over terms. Either way it's hardly the way to entice supporters to renew before the 'early bird' offer finishes next week..

When the post is finally filled I would love the names of the supposed 100 applicants to be released.

    Re: What's the hold-up?

Darren Witcoop on Twitter reckons candidates were being told today so perhaps Tan's astrologer has finished all the charts and someone has been chosen.

Good ol' Aaron Spelling - you couldn't watch an evening of TV in the 70s and 80s without watching a production with his name at the beginning of the credits.
