    A bit of a difference..

I know that it's early and we don't have much to go on just yet, but for anyone who watched the game yesterday, can you see anything different, positive etc? Southend were a poor outfit in my opinion, very limited. It's a pre season game in weather conditions that are quite extreme for our players, Although if we are in the business of looking for positives in terms of performance, then i would say that there were a couple. We looked to move the ball quicker and with more intent, the movement was better and we played a bit higher in order to get the ball back quicker. We still lacked a bit of quality when it mattered though and there was some sloppy play, which looked like players over thinking it a bit. I know it's a training exercise against inferior opposition, but did anyone else see anything to make them think, good or bad?

A couple of things I think are worth pointing out. First Southend played a game on 1 June I think it was, so my guess is that they're much less along their pre season path than we are and I wouldn't be surprised if that was their first game. Second, I think having so many under 21 and under 18 players involved will inevitably lead to a better quality of football when facing sides who are not as good as us (I think we were better than Johor and Southend). The next game to be streamed is against QPR and that should give us a better idea of how much BBM has been able to change things.

You talk about how our Cup games in recent seasons have been so different in intensity from what we get in the league and, so far, our matches have been much more like a Cup game from the recent past than a League one.

Yup, QPR will give us a better idea of how things are progressing (or not) this is really weird, no new signings, so no new players to run our eyes over and a new coach who we know very little about really. Anything could happen.

Changing the coach and not the players should give us an idea of how much the coaching has been contributing to the poor results in the last few seasons.

QPR lost 6-0 to a Spanish team I’d never heard of.

They played second-tier side CD Castellon (yeah, I'd never heard of them either).
Not surprisingly, the online report states...
"Their opponents were far superior, especially in a totally one-sided first half."
QPR's next game is against Toulouse.
