“It’s been a really positive start. We kept the ball well and it was an overall positive display. That’s exactly what the boss wants - to be aggressive and to control the game. For Rotherham to only have one shot late on is a massive compliment to us.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start.

“It’s a very young squad, it’s probably the youngest defence I’ve been involved in, but there’s huge talent there. None of them hide away from the ball or shy away from the pressure the boss puts on them. For me it’s about becoming a better leader, I have a responsibility to keep everyone in check.

“The energy I had from the staff was great. They made it clear they wanted the type of goalkeeper I am.

“Being comfortable with the ball at my feet is one of my strengths, and it fits with the way we play. For me, it’s now about adapting to the system, understanding the tactics, and maturing into the details of how the team wants to play.

"The next challenge for me is to keep improving.”
