Gary Madine has finally stopped fighting

Madine has retired from football a month after signing for a new club.

"On July 25, Gary Madine signed for National League North outfit Spennymoor Town. Less than a month later, the former Premier League striker has called time on his career."

"Unfortunately, I've realised that I no longer have that fire in my belly that has helped me have the career I have had, and I don't feel it's right to collect a wage from such good people when I know my heart isn't 100 per cent in it."

Has he lost his fight completely, or is he looking to focus on activities outside of football?

The 6m was well worth it for that 1 assist. Single handedly got us promotion.

‘Although I did feel that it was OK to collect my wages from a club that stupidly paid Ł6m for me and for whom I scored zero goals’

He did play a blinder against Reading though doing an excellent job of telling their 'keeper to calm down and just hang onto the ball to run the clock down.

If he’s retiring from football then surely there is more time for fighting?

Eddie Hearn would put him in with Joshua.

I think that's the plan. Concentrate fully on the fighting and giving up on the old footie.

So he doesn't play for Spennymoor anymore?

Correct. He wont get a penny more from Spennymoor as he don't play there anymore.
