Players not officially retiring but not finding new clubs

Thinking of Joe Ralls, it didn’t feel like he was retiring when he left us in the summer, but he still doesn’t have a new club, could he just end up retiring now? Rinomhota the same?

It feels like this is more common these days than it used to be 10/20/30 years ago?

There’s been quite a few examples recently I’ve seen, for some reason the only one coming to mind now is Hal Robson Kanu. Left WBA aged 31/32 and just never found another club.

Maybe it’s just the internet that makes us more aware of it, as we can more easily track players.

Maybe the players have more fingers in pies these days, and more wealth, so don’t need to drop down divisions?

I'm sure if they wanted to continue they could find clubs in League One, League Two or the National Leagues. I'm sure Merthyr would take Ralls.

Robson-Kanu seems to be thriving ...
