Should it be banned? No. It's an interesting proposition though. We already have far too many laws and rules which are aimed at protecting the irresponsible from themselves.

I had a quick look at a Fulham forum and noticed an interesting thread.
Should sponsorship be allowed on team shirts from Boyles, Dafabet etc ?
I put it on a par with tobacco and alcohol advertising. Its all very well saying its a choice, it can be highly addictive.

Companies advertise - that's how they generate customers and should be allowed to do so. It should be up to the general public whether to respond to the advert or not.
Tobacco?
I think gambling is way too "out there" in the UK. Watching feeds of games on Sky I'm amazed at the amount of ads for gambling, including the "you can get on this naaa" ads at half time.
My personal feeling that people can fall victim to gambling the same way as they do to drugs and alcohol and that gambling ads shouldn't be broadcast during game coverage and that shirt advertising should for bookies be banned. It just sends the wrong message.
I disagree. Gambling is ubiquitous. From old dears trundling to the bingo hall and local shops for scratch cards and lottery tickets to betting on sports events over the internet and everything in between is sustained by the same something for nothing mentality.

It's the thin end of the wedge too. One Free bet and then bombarded forever with ads to tempt you.
It's far to easy to say people have the choice whether to or not but many are half wits who fall in line with what their mates are doing. Soon it becomes part of their lives and can be as addictive as drug taking or alcoholism.
IMO these companies are evil, the lot of 'em and the tv regulators need to wake up.to the problem. Censorship of this kind would be a start.
We say the sponsorship is a problem, but what about these casino programs you have on itv at the early hours throughout the night. Surely that's a contributing factor as well.
Of course, within sport I don't believe alcohol tobacco and gambling should be able to sponsor team shirts. Little Patrick running around with Paddy Power emblazoned on his jersey seems wrong to me.
From a moral perspective, what for you would be acceptable sport sponsorship? Would Patrick tearing around advertising Wonga be okay?
The country and great swathes of the population are up to their thruppenny bits in debt facilitated by easily available credit (AKA debt). Are banks, payday loan companies and other usurists fine with you? I ask because as with those who drink, smoke and gamble, people who take on too much debt do so because they choose to.
I hadn't thought of companies such as Wonga. Add them to my list too.
