I have yet to see one remake of any classic film that comes anywhere near as good as the original. Most are bloody awful and some have been proper turkeys.

This one's got everything, gets me every time

Isn't the original, The Seven Samurai?
Yep.
The magnificent seven by the Clash is probably the best version...
Very few films could top The Seven Samurai. I thought the 1960s Western remake was OK, but it was not a patch on The Seven Samurai. I bought a book in the early 1970s about The Seven Samurai. Even though I had seen the film a few times the book explained several things I had missed. Can you imagine a book coming out to explain some of today's rubbish?
The ending of The Seven Samurai is very moving. It's a bit like the end of the Bicycle Thieves - another very great film.
Can't see it topping Seven Samurai (Kurosawa is the Master)
or even the 60s one, but they were for different audience tastes.
I suspect it will do well, and if Denzel Washington is in it, I'll watch it.
If you are interested in movie related books there is a terrific one about the John Wayne Classic The Searchers. It covers the historical background to the story on which the movie is based as well as detailing the making of the movie itself. Titled The Searchers: The Making of an American Legend by Glenn Frankel. Highly recommended.
