Best performance for quite a while I thought, MOM for me. Looked comfortable in the position NW played him in today, I'd like to see him finish the season out in that more advanced role.
It is vital for us that he signs on, moment of magic out of nothing
Played 4 passes where we had a chance of scoring and that's what he gives us, I think that will be his last goal at the club but I hope I'm wrong.
I thought the same thing, and he did look slightly lost today. Only time will tell if that's because he doesn't understand what the other players are going to do or because he can't keep up. I worry it's the latter. However he's one of the few players we currently have who know how to put the ball in the net. I think he could function as a 10 but he needs to up his contributions going forward and defending as he's not influencing the game enough for what we need next season.
First half I thought he was awful. His tracking back was terrible. When Brentford scored all their midfield was around the box and Whitts was still in the centre circle.
Quite a few misplaced passes and lost most challenges too.
2nd half much better, more involved and created a lot but when we were hanging on I was glad to see him go off.
I must have been watching a different game. I thought apart from one decent pass, one decent cross and a goal from a ball that fell to his feet he was awful. He let Brentford's midfield and defenders run the game.
I thought their number 23 jota was what Whitts was 7-10 years ago and was a far better player.
This is not American football where a player can come on as a specialist and I don't believe the team can carry him for the majority of the game.
So, apart from setting up the first goal, and scoring the second, what else did he do, eh?
No, you were watching the right game. Whittingham was virtually non-existent in the 1st 45 minutes, and yet when he came out after his half time talk with Warnock he was moving around the pitch with twice as much energy.
There's no doubting his footballing ability, but in a decent, play-off quality midfield which we'll hopefully have next season, he'll looked decidedly average..
We were outplayed by Brentford in midfield for long periods of the game.Whitts has one pace now-slow!!My wish is that he gets his 100 goals and at the end of the season we offer him a coaching role or reluctantly say goodbye.Club legend without doubt but in my opinion has no more to offer a Championship side seeking to improve.
Give him a new deal, there's plenty he can offer us going forward still
He's probably the only player at the club who can consistently unlock defences with one pass or a set piece, he's also a calming influence who's experience could prove invaluable if we were to go for it next season
Ultimately Whitts is not a number 10 and this was highlighted in one particular example in the first half when he picked the ball up about 40 yards out with about 20 yards of space to run into and instead of driving at the defence hw slowed it down and waited for someone to overlap.
